The HAMs on this board don't troll this forum. They're mostly truck drivers who are ham operators. When pointedly specific questions are asked about the legalities of CB radio, they answer them. Then are blamed for trolling. Who else will give an accurate answer for the legalities of radio? Chicken Banders?

Well if the Stick in the Mud care more than the FCC does hams would think for a second. If the CB band was deregulated they wouldnt have to produce fake 10 meter radios to circumvent the archaic laws governing a band that is FOR THE CITEZENS!! Not for the EFFING GOVERNMENT and NOT FOR HAMS!
What is occurring here is that you are attempting to force people to join your "dumb" little club so they can feel big and proud and become FCC cops like the rest of you. So what if we don't want to talk to the space shuttle or build our own antennae. That is YOUR Hobby not OURS. This is the Citizens Band we are talking about here , if you can get off you Stump for one second.
YOU Invite this interference by defending laws from a bygone era. Maybe the next time a CB discussion occurs you should go to the basement and play Morse Code with another Ham instead of feeling the need to preach about the FCC.
Until proper radios can be built legally that can be used Freely in the Citizens Band of America in the day and age of 2010 You will continue to promote Illegal Radios being made that include your dear precious ham band.
Well we cant allow them a proper radio power is like Saying we cant give them all guns to me. The crimminals are going to do what it is they do anyway and the law abiding citizen will be made to suffer. -
Why do you hate the truth? I've a Trucker since 1969. And I don't see why any Driver would want to be caught unlicensed on 10 meters? When they could pass a little 35 question test. Which would allow them to legally talk on 10 meters. License cost about $15. And is good for 10 years. As far as CB Laws go YOU CAN GET A HEFTY FINE FOR JUST TRYING TO HAVE FUN. And it can be more that you make in a few months.
And if get a Lawyer you still will lose. Because the FCC have there own Judges and Courts. So it make more sense to me not to show how
ignorant you really are. I think that you should be glad that some is trying to help. By sharing with you what the rules say.
JUST THINK A $7,500-$10,000 FINE FOR EVERY PIECE OF ILLEGAL EQUIPMENT! IS IT REALLY WORTH IT? Maybe you earn that kind of money. And you can just give it away. But most of us drivers can't afford it!
And I know that it's a CB forum. What I said about the Illegal part applies to CB radio. As well as Ham radio.
And yes I do talk on CB radio. On the road & at Home. -
I've been a CB since 1968. And I have them in all of my vehicles. As well as my Home. And yes I do use them daily. The FCC has givin you a proper power radio. Just pass the test. Just like when I got my Drivers License I DID NOT HAVE TO TAKE A BIG TRUCK. But now if one wants a CDL they must. It's the LAW! Same as the radio world has LAWS! Why do you have a CDL? Because you don't need no stinking Laws! After all YOU are a Law
abiding citizen. So drive you Big Truck without a CDL. And see what happens when caught. Just tell D.O.T. THAT I AM A LAW ABIDING CITIZEN. AND YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO ME! And NO I'm not a FCC Cop! I don't care what you do! But I WILL LAUGH AT YOU. AS YOU CRY IF YOU GET CAUGHT!!! -
Frago .....
Like I said WRITE the FCC DEMAND they give you new right ......
Most laws are set by the ITU not the FCC this is why HAM BANDS are world wide there is no place to expand CB except for 27.405 - 27.999 mhz and those frequencies are OWNED by others right now .........
MORES CODE .....
I hope your good at it it is one great mode so don't knock what you don't understand. AND IT IS NO LONGER A REQUIREMENT for any license.
YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO GET A RADIO THAR RUNS 1,000 WATTS and covers 1.7 -196,000,000 MHZ now all you need is to go get a license.
YOU already have a CB license IF you obay the laws....... they just did not issue it directly to you.
Sec. 95.404 (CB Rule 4) Do I need a license?
You do not need an individual license to operate a CB station. You are authorized by this rule to operate your CB station in accordance with the rules in this subpart.
Your talking to someone who goes back to the early days of CB and has had CB radios here for almost 50 years I still use CB almost every day for what it was intended for my radios are legal and I have no problem talking to anyone I want ......
You have a chance to be heard the FCC is looking for comments the rules have not changed much over the years BECAUSE CB has not.
If you feel it needs to get writing ......Last edited: Aug 7, 2010
Big_m Thanks this. -
READ your LAST sentence!!! Relaxing the rules isn't going to help: CB outlaws don't obey the rules they have! You REALLY think they would obey MORE relaxed ones? Yup, the 'crimminals' are going to do what it is they do anyway. CB radio CREATES ITS OWN INTERFERENCE!!!!!!!!!

The answers are in my other posts if you will take a breath and read them! POWER IS *NOT* THE ANSWER!!!!! Knowledge, training, and experience IS! "Free" unbridled use of CB radio would simply cause a "radio traffic jam" of unprecedented proportions and prevent CBers from getting much use of the radio. CB radio is as "deregulated" as its gonna GET for all the reasons I stated. CBers often think the way to make things "better", talk farther, is POWAH, POWAH, POWAH. and it simply a myth promoted by unknowledgable CBERS themselves. It just is NOT so! Just like so many other CB myths and legends........like 'AH've gotta have 18 feet of coax (thar) fer mah reddio to work'!
That is one of biggest crocks of hooey that has EVER been promoted. But CBers BELIEVE this piece of folklore and will argue us down over this junk. Why? Because they have NO prior training, no testing, not real data to support such a myth. That is why the hams DO take tests because they, AND the Feds, know that it is the basis for effective and useful communications. How come the hams routinely use LESS than 100 watts and talk all over the WORLD without all that power? And yet, we are "stick in the mud"!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Some even make a hobby of using less than 5 watts and log contacts around the globe!!!!!! It's called "QRP' operations.
Anything worth having is worth WORKING for. The amateur license is something of an achievement whereby the candidate is given a basic knowledge of operating rules, frequencies, procedures, laws, and even traditions of the amateur service. In return for this, he receives literally MILLIONS of "channels" (as CBers call 'em), the privilege of using up TO 1500 watts IF needed, and bands that yield a huge variety of "DX" that CBers covet. It is liberal enough that one can work the entire world with
as little as 5 or 10 watts
, and DO it free of all the noise and "static" (as you put it), none of the "SKREEEEEEEEE, HOWLLLLLLLLLLL, ROAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR" on the CB band that is caused by the users themselves who have little or no clue as to what they are doing or WHY the noise is there.
Anytime a person or a group of people wants more of something, there's a price to pay. And there SHOULD be! The price is RESPONSIBILITY, to LEARN, to RESPECT the needs of other operators, to become technically competent in one's operations, to RECOGNIZE that, by being willing to abide by liberal rules, one gets a marvelous privilege that will put CB radio into the WEEDS!! Just the technical advancements that have been realized in EQUIPMENT is enough to make one WANT these privileges.
A truck, for example, is an EXCELLENT mobile platform for amateur radio simple because of its size. I would certainly be more inclined to listen to a good conversation (or participate in it) about the latest amateur HF antenna on a local repeater, OR on 20 Meters with a station in Barcelona, Spain than, "HOW 'BOUCHA THAR, MERCY SAKES, YA GOT AN' OLE COPY THAR ON THIS OOOOOOOOOOONNNE MOON DOGGIE IN CENTRAL GEORGIA, KICK HIT BACK THAR, AH GAR-UN-TOLE YE, KICK HIT BACK, COME OWNNNNNNNNNNNNN"!!!!!"
Or exchange greetings with a station in Moscow, Russia, London, England, or South Africa. There's stuff on amateur radio that CBers have never HEARD of!!!! Yet they try to ridicule hams, talk about how it is a "dying" hobby, blah-blah-blah....and that is another CB myth! It is actually GROWING!!!
Yell at us all you like, but CB radio is not likely to get not ONE of its coveted desires because IT, not amateur radio, is the 'dying" hobby. It was never supposed to BECOME a "hobby" to START WITH!!!! It has been replaced for the general public by cellphones, email, texting, computers, & fax. It will NOT be permitted to "compete" with the REAL hobby radio, which is, and always has been, the amateur radio service because it already HAS all the things CBers grouse about (and DON'T have). Amateur radio is GROWING!
Being "illegal", filching "channels" that belong to other users, using radios that are illegal for CBers right out of the box, trying to FORCE your way into more privileges, yapping on the ham bands with so-called "10 Meter" radios just because "we'uns has got them spay-shul rights", this "day and age stuff" is NOT the way to gain more privileges. All it does is cause the rightful users to RESIST and the Feds to dig in and turn a deaf ear!!!!

Heres my take:
I have several radios that include a 10m radio. This radio has become my daily as I LOVE the sound quality that comes off it. I however, am also licensed to talk on 10meters. When I run it on the CB band I simply turn the power down. Granted, I do not run 4 watts, more like 30. However, it is my opinion that so long as I do not make a fool of my self and you those 30 little watts respectively, the FCC will not come after me. Some of you may disagree....but in the grand scheme of things, if your running under 300 watts on CB band, your not going to be noticed. This power just reenforces your voice and adds range. If you have a properly tuned and aligned radio, and dont bleed all over 20 different bands, speak respectfully and do not key down for more than seconds at a time, your good to go.
Again, just my take on it. From all the reports I have read, the FCC is going after much bigger fish. Bases running 1k plus watts of over-modulated radio, mobiles running thousands of watts.
As far as rules on CB go, I realize the band cannot be expanded, and quite frankly I dont think it needs to be. If you want another place to talk, use side band. Its legal so long as you do it within the CB band.
I think it would be nice to having the RF power limitation raised. 4 watts is a joke. Even with a great antenna, a power mic, and a loud voice, 4 watts gets you a mile. As inefficient as the CB band is, I think more power would be in order.
HOWEVER, the problem with this request is that half the idiots out there running more power dont know how to use it....More power = more chances of screwing something up and possibly endangering your life. You would be amazed at the morons that dont know you CAN NOT touch the antenna when running massive amounts of power and keying down....this WILL burn you.....you WILL be hurt. But your average CB goers do not know things like this, ergo the limitations.
So, in closing I have solved nothing. Contributed nothing, and really just stated my opinion.
Carry on.

No you make sense The problem always has been and this applys to HAMS too People make up for skill with power.
The qrp boys work the world on less that 5 watts.... then there is 75 meters .... -
Exactly! Yes, it IS possible to talk around the world with 5 watts....just not on CB. (Unless skip conditions are just right...and by that I mean once in a lifetime just right)
CB is an EXTREMELY inefficient low bandwidth. What is the old saying....the lower the frequency the longer the antenna? This applies directly to CB. We need LONG antennas with decent power, and even with 100 watts and a 102" whip your looking at around 30-40 miles....CB needs much less skill than many of the tighter band widths. No, power is not the answer to everything, but no, your not gonna get out with 4 watts on CB either. Unless your talking on side band where your 4 watts turns into 25. -
Just out of curiosity, when is this thread going to be closed so this giant pissing match can end?
