First lets put a different perspective on this Lease purchases might all be bad if you are A.) a truck driver I am not a nice person in person and I sure as hell hate listening to whiny steering wheel holders bash everything that you aren't doing. Lease purchases are set to succeed at a specific ( oops smaller word) a set amount of miles per week. i.e. most are set at 2000 miles of short haul ( less then 400 miles per load). But since steering wheel holders want to bash everything anyway I will move on. Yes the price of the truck is over priced per week ( mine was 450 a week for just the truck) plus all the other stuff ( 850 a week total for everything for mine LP). So in order for me to break even I needed 2000 miles of regular freight to make that payment plus my cell phone and storage unit. Yes I didn't make what a company driver made but I didn't have as much hassle as the company driver either. Would I do another LP? maybe if I found the right one. The difference is what kind of discipline can you maintain. when I left the company begrudgingly had to hand over more then $2000.00 in reserve and maintenance account funds back to me because I had maintained a positive balance in both. Only downside to the whole thing was I had little time away from the truck I was constantly looking for freight because I needed to make those payments. Also I was in constant contact with my accountants and the lease guys as much as my dispatcher to make sure everything was going smoothly. It did help my dispatcher ran me as hard as I wanted too. plus the over sized loads she fed me was keeping me on the plus side. Even if it does sounds too good to be true, sometimes you just have to try. Later![]()

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

fr8monkey Thanks this. -
I just removed multiple insults from this thread. One post even was completely deleted.
There is no need to resort to grade school insult slinging. We are all supposed to be adults here.
Temper your words here the same as you would if you were talking face to face with some one.
Discuss the topic, not the intelligence or lack there of that you feel the other poster is displaying.
If you cannot do that then put that person on your ignore list.
The staff and the other members of this fine community appreciate it.
Thank you. -
Cpape: I looked at your web site and your company also has a lease purchase. So lets hear your deal. That should say a lot about your company

Thanks for keeping me honest. We really don't have a lease purchase program, and I am not sure what I would say if someone made a serious inquiry. We have done lease purchase in the past. Generally, only with proven company drivers that wanted to move to independent contractors. They would buy one of our trucks that had a reasonable amount of life (300K miles). There was a plan to make sure the truck was paid off quickly and that they still had the take home pay they were used to. We haven't done it for a while. Most of our company drivers are pretty content driving our trucks. All that I can remember were successful and went on to buy more trucks on their own, without our financing. One that I remember, did much worse once he was on his own (stealing too much cash flow). He wanted to go back to the lease purchase program...unfortunately he was on his own at that point. Between emission changes and the Great Recession, our truck purchasing has been extremely screwed up. We have very new trucks and 400-500K mi trucks. Neither are a very good way for someone to break into the game. We aren't doing L/P to hook a starry eyed newbie. Only to keep good drivers that want to transition to independent contractor. Hope you were looking for the long story musicmaker.

I learned that hard lesson with my first trk.
I can spend the money on stupid stuff because next week I will make the same amount or more. Wrong...
Was a learning lesson and I learned from that.
Had I not saved my money from 2008, I would not have survived 2009 with the screw up year 2009 was.
I work hard 10 months of the year and then my wife and I fly home during the winter.
But we save or money and use it to pay the truck bills and still make payroll for the off times.
Lease purchase is not for everybody, nor being a bussiness owner.
Some people are just better off being employees I think. -
A recruiter and not a very good one lmao. I make money with L/O and have owned my trucks in the past and still have my own authority so you statement that all are scams is bs
The biggest advantage of the L/O is you get a break on ins, tags, Dont have to worry about loads and the truck will be repaired without you having to break your own bank.
I admit its not for everyone but if you have a brain and a little biz savy you can make money as a company driver and a L/O .
