1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Based on anyone's experience what would be a good company for a new driver to get good pay and good home time preferably every week if not everyday. I am going to train next month and its not a company sponsored school so I can choose who I want to apply with. Anything would be appreciated.:biggrin_25514:

from what i understand. those every week every day positions come along after paying your dues in the trucking game. they are usually positions where you have to have 1 or 2 years experience. but if you want to try something local in ur area i would just start knocking on doors. maybe you'll get lucky and find some mom and pop trucking company willing to accept u as a newbie.

If you want to be home every night have dinner with the wife and kids every night then don't get into trucking! You will not find a local gig until you have at lease 6-12 months experience. There very few companies out there that do all local and provide training for newbies.95% chance your going have go OTR all 48 states a while until you get some experience. The only way I see you getting a local gig right out of school if you drive for a small mom and pop company or driving a dump truck or something. But these days its even hard just to get a driving job driving straight trucks without experience.

Most Flatbed companies will get you home every weekend. That's best deal you will find as a "newbie".

Thanks everyone for your input! I understand I probably won't find a local job until I get the experience. My wife and I have talked and really put a lot of thought into our decision for me to do this. What I really am looking for is what companies are good for new graduates to go for because the 2 I had in mind, Swift and USA truck don't seem to get a lot of positive feedback. I just want to work for someone who is fair and tries to understand the needs of drivers that have families. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I would assume it has some to do with where you live. You will have an easier time if you live in a dense urban area. My instructor laughed at me when I talked about local jobs said it would never happen because it took him to long. He lived in small town ft Wayne . I am willing to believe here in Dayton Cincinnati area it will be easier considering local classifieds are looking for local drivers with experience. I think you don't see allot of local posters here because they are spending time with their families.

HI everyone, I have questions with an "s" about the right path I should take to get to where I want to be. First off I'm from south Florida and just moved to Nashville, TN.I currently have a Class A permit from FLA& I'm trying 2 enroll into TDI trucking school to help with my license and exp. I already know how to drive but dont have exp on paper. I really have my heart set on becoming a Fuel Hauler(night shift) if anyone has advice it would be greatly appreciated!

go to your local bottler and apply there. I know guys who drive for pepsi, coke, bud and so forth. Try that route.

Hold on, don't take weekends off in trucking as weekends off in normal everyday life! If a company says you will be home on the weekends this usually means you will arrive sometime sunday morning and be home for a few hours before heading out in the afternoon. This is your definition of weekends off. I have been driving for almost 14 years and have yet to find a job where I get the weekends SAT and Sun off. With that being said I also love trucking. You have to understand though you are rarely going to see your wife and house if you are in the trucking industry. My very best advice for you would be to have your wife get her license too! My wife did and that was the best move in life we have made yet. We drove team together for seven years and really had a good time. We also made quite a bit of money! It took me a couple of months of convincing her to do it though. My wife is a very girly girl and is not your typical trucker type! If you guys think this might be something you want to look into let me know. I will be more than happy to help you guys. Welcome to the forum and good luck.
