Since neither one of you guys actually drives for Prime, how the hell would you know? Given a good FM - meaning a decent revenue stream, those fixed costs work out to a reasonable rate, leaving plenty of profit.
Prime, never been insulted by employer before.

Hey ironpony, since you've you've never driven for WERNER or C.R. England before how the hell would you know anything about their operation?
Practice what you preach. -
Prime.... and thier success leasing program has been written up, attacked , investigated and yaked about for years pony. Some of us happen to remember Midwestern Distribution and their b.s.. It's the same thing.
Prime's deal is COMPLETLY geared towards the co. Yeah I've seen the lucky dawgs whom collected their "completion bonus " which is really their maint fund.
If you like Prime and you THINK you're making money then hammer down bud and enjoy....... -
If you approach ANY lease with the idea that it is employment rather than a business, then you're going to have problems - thus all the biotchin' that you see here. This is especially true for those who dig themselves a financial hole to start with, jump in, and then throw a truck payment on top of themselves. That just doesn't work.
Sure, there are certain advantages that accrue to the company - you'd be stupid to think that there aren't - and why shouldn't there be? There isn't a trucking company in America that is an arm of Social Security or Welfare, now is there?
OTOH, there are advantages that accrue to the operator as well - the biggest is of course is more money in your pocket if you approach it intellegently. That's working out just fine for me, and I know many people who have completed leases as well - with a nice chunk of change at the end. The point is that there are two stories here - one that's filled with whining about failure, and another one that is called success. -
Basic math would tell you it's a bad deal.
If you ran 2000 miles/week (average)
$1.00/mile (average)
$1000/week for lease
$1000/week for fuel
You are only breaking even at best. You would have to average 2500 miles/week to net only $500.
Like I said, the weekly rates should be what you pay monthly. -
Given that our guarantee right now is $1.23/mi minimum, I find your numbers horribly off. My average rate this week is over $1.55, and last week was over $1.70, and the week before that was $1.40. The 2 weeks before those two my average was $0.00/mi because I took a 2 week vacation. All of those numbers take into account ALL dispatched miles, loaded and empty.
Tell me this everyone, which is the better deal, the company with the $1000/wk fixed cost that gives you the freight to get you an average net profit between $13-2000/wk, or the company with the $500/wk fixed cost where you struggle to break even? -
If you had such a Good Deal there,
you would be turning drivers away............
your waiting list would be 2 years long.............
the company could save big bucks on advertising............
but NO...........................................................................
Can you explain this ??? -
Hey sazook are those numbers fuel or pay per mile? I am going to be coming over there in sept and I will be running a team with a freind who is a L/O. What was the going paypermile last week? Also where are the teams running now a days? Are they still doing mostly produce runs from CA and AZ back out to the east side?
-
I couldn't tell you what teams are doing right now, I was last team in May, and from what I've heard, they have picked up since then, and I was doing 45-5000 miles a week. Those numbers I posted were average revenue to my truck per mile.
-
I don't have a dog in this fight, but it sounds like you have to have some pretty good business savy to make a success of this deal. It's probably a lot easier to recruit drivers rather than business men who drive, Either way they get their freight moved.
