From what I remember you don't officially have a job till you have past the training and the DOT physical. You don't get paid for the training so.... I don't know I will see if 1bad can clear it up when he gets in tonight. I have tried to erase everything about Central from my mind seeing as how they about ruin my marriage! I really have nothing positive to say that is why I stayed away so long. But the people on here are great people to know so that is why I am checking in a bit more nowadays.:biggrin_25525:

Well the answer to your question is technically NO. You have been accepted by central to put into their school to get your CDL. A lot of things could happen, they may run your background, you could fail the drug test, physical or work well test, they could just not like you and send you home.
Then assuming that you get past the first couple days and you actually start school, you are not being paid for school for 2 weeks you are on your own for meals and the like. Then you can still fail in school, not pass your permit tests, bomb backing or driving, and still get sent home. Then if you get your CDL and don't pass the road test or the ally dock backing test, central won't hire you.
Assuming you get your cdl, and pass those tests and get put on a truck with a trainer, the trainer could still flunk you. Then you have your upgrade tests, which you could still wash out on, and another driving and backing test.

You don't really have a job until you are in your own truck. Even then I heard of a guy who went through everything, got his own truck and they called him on the road and fired him because there was a problem with his background check that they didn't catch before.

The sad thing is....I am a company driver. Had HT in June, but spent it in Dayton with my daughter and her husband. Wife and mom flew out. We had an enjoyable time, especially at the Air Force Museum at WrightPatt.
Don't mind hard work, but the comment regarding drano later in this post is spot-on.:biggrin_25510:

There you go sugar coating the issue:biggrin_25522:. Looking back what you say is true, but it is not all that gloomy. There is no grim reaper following you around waiting to hack your head off. Now comes the BUT. You have to be honest, drug free and do your stinking job from day one. If you stumble...and all do at some point....pick yourself up and continue. We started with 46 students, lost 6 by noon, 23 made it past CDL to riding with a trainer. After 9 months I only have 3 confirmed that are still with Central. My opinion is that Central is no better/worse than any other starter company.

Thanks to Widow and Bigrig for all the info. This is exactly the kind of detailed information I was looking for.

Another question I had is, they are having me go to a different school to get my CDL. I'm pretty sure it is Mac CDL Training and Recruiting in Niagara Falls, NY. The training there is 4 weeks vs. Central's standard 2 wk. training. Anyone know anything about this school? Will that make a difference to Central finally hiring me?

don't know if I can fit a 34 in tomorrow through sunday. Load delivers mon 0600 in N SLC and I'm near moline, il. If I don't fit a 34 in then I'm in danger of not completing my load and if I do fit it in then I'm in danger of being late...lol. This is what happens when you do favors for planners... 1900 mile load with a 360 mile DH with 4 days to do it in, all while bumping into your 70 near the end...i don't really want to take a 34 at WVDC, I'll come out without my trl.

The guy that runs the NY schools is Rick, unless they contracted to someone else which I doubt.
He has several CDL schools in the area. MAC, Niagara and I believe one more.
He use to run one for Central in Medina NY, but the testing was done in Niagara Falls and he was having issues with some of the testers. So he closed that one.
He was also training some drivers for Central out of his school in Jamestown NY, and he was the one that ran the short lived school in Birmingham AL for them also. That one fell apart because the cost for a CDL in AL is allot higher than in most other states, so it was cheaper for the students to do it in Salt Lake.
He was also originally the person behind the one in Conley. But I think they may have had someone else do it in the end. Not sure.

If they are running you in the regular school in Buffalo that is a big bonus. Since it is a longer school and you will have a chance to actually learn something. Instead of just learning what you need to pass the test.
