Need help with truck school in MICHIGAN

I went to Suburban and they suck. Most schools have a 160 hour requirement. Suburban runs 10 hour days 6 days a week for almost 3 weeks. The first week they read the study guide (Which is free at the DMV) to you so you can get your learners permit. the second week you do yard maneuvers, all day all weather. (nice in winter) third week they squeeze 4 people in a truck and you spend most of the day watching someone else drive (but it counts toward your 160). If your friend is looking at schools i would look elsewhere, this place is just a mill, get you in get your money and get you out.

 

The reason it means you definitely have a job is because they are the absolute worst company to work for. You start at like 25cpm, and they team you up with another newbie, absolutely no training.
I avoid CRST trucks on the road at all costs. You never know that team could have a combined experience of less than 1 week.

 

I start at Trainco in lansing mi FEB 22 I heard they are a good schoo to go through they really help you out alot

 

Suburban Truck Driver Training School runs about 6 grand cash if you can pay it. Basically If you stay on schedule it takes 3 weeks to go through. They work with you to get funded. If your strapped for cash and your credit is poor the school will work with you. They let you start your training without spending a dime. But the place is a business. I was looking at other schools and this one seemed just fine. I just graduated today actually and recieved my certificate of completion and my cdl A. All in all I was pleased with the training. The instructors all knew what they were doing. I was prepared at every phase of the program and for all tests thru the state. The staff were polite and courteous and answered every question thrown their way. Sure there might be a "better" school out there but look... They are all in business to make money, bottom line. Since you will be going everyday pretty much I would suggest going to a school that is close to you that you are comfortable with. On top of all that, at suburban you can go thru your first week and if you aren't happy with them for whatever reason you are free to leave. no expense. Its when you sign your name that it matters and then you only owe minumum training fees. which by the way you don't "have" to pay on the spot to continue. Look, at every step they explain everything to you. No strong arm tactics just a pretty little girl explaining exactly what you are signing. It worked out just fine for me. But my situation maybe is different from the next guys. They give you a full 8 hours drive time and if you need more cause your just not picken up what they are layin down, they give you more. Lets see they had one student there that has been in and out of there for like 3 months and he was still there when I left today. You don't test till you are comfortable behind the wheel. You think you can pass after 8 hours they let you test. To get apps to apply isn't difficult either. they give you 7 or 8 to start off with. fill those out and they give you more, fill those out and they give you more. I met some really cool people while I was there and learned alot fast. But then it's up to you and how much you want it. Study study study till your dreamin about it. Its like anything else, you want it you gotta chase it. It wont just fall in your lap one day while your channel surfin. I would recomend the school, But then I had a really good experience and applied myself. I treated it like a job and it worked out. The lifetime job placement is going to be a plus too. In a year if I want to move on I just stop in see what my options are and applications at my disposal. nice. as long as they are in business....hey its michigan sometimes ya gotta roll the dice you dont play you dont win well I've ranted long enough good luck on your decision i am happy with mine later

Does anyone know which Michigan Works might have funding available for truck schools? I called the one in Ypsilanti and they don't have it.

 

I've been advised to go to orientations and apply at all your nearby MW offices. NWLB funding officially ended in July (they really ran out of money way b4 that). I've gone to 3 orientations. They all seemed to feel training funds will be available again- exactly when they can't say. I applied to Pontiac in June and haven't been assigned a caseworker yet. I visited CDL, Integrity in Livonia, and US Truck in Detroit. I'd really like to go to Class A Training Center in Armada since they have a simulator trainer, but it's 40 miles each way to them.
