hey all, I was just wondering the legal way a firearm needs to be transported through states that do not honor your concealed pistol license, the two states I am most concerned about are Illinois and New York.

is the gun in it's case enough? does it need a slide lock, and ammo stored separately?

    thanks for the help!

please only post facts here, the legality is not in question only how to legally get through these states with the firearm in my truck.

I openly admit I carry a 9mm Star auto all the time, except when on a military or Federal property, at which point I tell them and turn it in at the gate. I do not go to Canada because I will not surender my handguns to them at the border, so I just do not go there.

I keep my gun in a gun safe bolted and welded into the sleeper,(and yup it stay when I leave and so does anything important enopugh for me to drill holes in somewhere elses truck, with or without permission it stays).

I have been from ocean to ocean and from the Gulf to that other place above Il (but not in there). Been questioned as to what it is by several agencies, and no one has ever had a problem.

The gun safe is not accessible while going down the road and requires a 2 keys to open it. It is the or used to be sold by Gall's Safety Equipment, has 2 compartments so it meets the rules regarding ammo and gun being stored in separate compartments.

But really, this site is your first choice as to what is legal as far as your guns. We can tell you how Smith and Wesson or Charter Arms ship there guns 47k at a time.

I still believe the best place is in your right hand unless you don't have one or your left handed, and loaded. What good is a unloaded weapon that is locked up, especially in New York City, this place is lsted as reason to buy a gun.
