yes, both are still under warranty, and so far detroit has covered these 2, but cant tell me where it is coming from? or dont want to? been doing some research, detroits are having a problem with this, the answer or the reason they wont say. talked to some other folks and on here as well, and there is a metal-fuel problem on some trucks no matter what eng or truck. Some say the ulsd fuel is eating away at the aluminum fuel tanks, I dont know. still waiting to get oil samples on both trucks back, and the fleet is pressuring detroit to come up with an answer, considering they just bought 500 new cascadias. As soon as I know I will let ya'll know. But I think this is gonna be a long drawn out process before we find the real answer.

I have driven both, and generally disliked them, but I were forced to choose, I would take the Cascadia. Doesn't mean I liked it, just means I hated it less than the Prostar.

gee, where did detroit go wroung, had the 60 series motor one of the best now this, what happen, look at transam buying 1500 T-660 with mx motors in them, it will be interesting how they work out

Detroit and the others were forced to build cleaner engines as mandated by the EPA and Carb. I am sure if this EPA stuff had not happened detroit would still be producing 12.7's.

The 12.7 was a BRILLIANT piece of work. If the company I'm contracted to will let me, my next truck will be an '03 379 with a 12.7.

problem found! the new dd15l has a primary fuel filter, a prefilter then a secondary filter all housed in 1 aluminum unit and all the filters are canister filter elements, all mounted upside down like a freakin car oil filter!. the problem is the primary is fuel flows directly into the small prefilter, about 2" round and about 4"long, but if its not light enough to float the primary will not catch the trash, it flows directly into the small prefilter. So I went out to a brand new cascadia just came from the factory with 129 miles on it and pulled the prefilter. What do you know its full of jelled up gunk and metal shavings, and when you pull it out the fuel comes out of the filter and anything not stuck to the filter flows back down into the base. (how many mechanics are gonna think to look down in there and see if there is any trash, nope they're gonna slap a new prefilter in there and call it good!) so looks like a crappy filter design by detroit and freightliner doesn't think to flush the crap out, great engineers we got! now we are waiting on a detroit and/or freightliner rep to come see our findings, oh joy!
