No Pro here BUT: Milage and service records would help.

Pictures might even add to getting some honest opinions

How are you at doing your own repairs?
When was motor rebuilt? (truck has a few years on it)
Has it been taken care of? (Hooptie?)
Tall rubber, small motor, low gears, COE and you are worried about fuel mileage? (does it come with a brick, to help you hold the throttle down) :^)
You didn't say if it had tandems, what are you going to pull?
Last DOT inspection? (will it pass)
I would not buy the truck unless you have work for it, a place to park it and work on it.
Also get or borrow a loaded trailer and run it hard on a test drive to see what you are buying.
Many truckers have started out this way, however I think you might be making a pretty long reach unless that truck has very low miles.

$2000 is scrap value, it's about what you could get if you part it out and sort the materials before scrapping it. You can find 90's trucks for the same price.

I just found an 83 with less than 80k miles on it for $3000 I am looking at today. (yes that's right 75471 miles, it was used as an RV mostly parked)

First let me say I love old trucks and go to antique truck shows whenever I can, and I can tell you I've seen people sink alot of money in an old non running trucks. If this truck is as good as you say and it will do what you want it to, then you can't go wrong. If you get it you might want to look into ATHS.(Antique Truck Historical Society)

Olddog, I think the fact that it sold was a message that you are not suppose to buy an old COE. Its God slapping you up side the head.
