Hi - My husband started driving about 5 weeks ago - mid-life career change, I guess you'd say. Retired Army, been in healthcare/nursing for probably 30'ish years and wanted a change. Honestly, though, the more I learn, the more similarities between military and trucking I see. That old saying "the more things change, the more they stay the same" seems to have some truth to it.
So, a little more about us - married 13 years, 5 kids total - two each from first marriages and one 11 year old daughter "together".
Things I've learned in the past several weeks:
That's probably all the life lessons ya'll can stand from me in my very first post! I look forward to making friends and learning more from all the experienced folks here!
- The only person who thinks I have to do it all is ME
- I really can't do it all
- I actually do enjoy mowing the lawn more than I enjoy cooking, but...
- If you let your 11 year old drive around on the mower with the blades not engaged after you finish mowing, check to make sure she has turned off the mower's headlights; said mower's battery is now completely dead... and I can't mow at all -- much less do it all!
- Cereal is okay for dinner every now and then, and we can now have fish sticks and french fries any time we want - when daddy isn't home!

Welcome to the board. Check out the "Ladies Room" forum and you'll find a bunch of other like minded women. Me, I'm 23 years old female trucker, I'd rather be doing the job than be at home which on the flip side means I can't/won't be having kids for many more years. I have no problem waiting

Trucking is a fun industry, it's a fun skill to learn, requires only 4 months of education and training vs 4 years minimum to become a teacher, and it pays more than teaching. My dad nearly had a Ph.D and was qualified to teach 6 different subjects at a college level and nobody would hire him anywhere -
Welcome jpzec.
There are a lot of truckers wives here, some been around a while, others are newbies. We are a supportive lot, a little crazy maybe, but the one thing we do well is look after each other. Its a great forum for getting ideas about managing your new 'home alone' life, and for understanding hubby's new career too.
Be sure to look for the Ladies Room, there have been quite a few newbie wives join us recently. -

Welcome aboard. Your going to fit in very well around here. Good to see that you have a sense of humor about it all. Most of us wives will admit to being a lil crazy. Just comes with the territory.
