Um SEZ YOU. Take a look at the Rockefeller's "hard work"..and "family values". John D. Rockefeller never touched an oil rig. What he did was team up with the rail road, and squeeze out competitors ruthlessly.
Read "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair. There's been massacre aplenty right here in the USA.
Same way with the Boosh clan. I would not fight for them.. I wouldn't protect them if they had a army of enemies on the TVee screen right now..swarming all over them.
The great "Welfare" is being sucked up by them and their ilk.
I am a fool to argue, because it will go on and on.
Advice? Don't become a trucker.

I'm sorry to hear about your condition, carroll6. I can understand your bitterness towards your last company. But, the one thing I will say, is that the company can't force you to go out when you're sick. All you do is tell them to send you home. If they say no, then you say "I quit", send your stuff home UPS or FedEx, and jump a bus home. Your health is your responsibility. Most companies just won't care. Most companies use toxic managers and dispatchers, because those are the most prevalent out there. The relational manager and dispatcher is rare, even they're a lot more successful with getting their drivers to do well.
As for the the haircut and socks kind of stuff, I agree, I think those are kind of nuts, HOWEVER, what you and I think of it doesn't matter as much as what those who made the policies think of it. You can follow the policies, or not follow the policies and risk reprimand. OR, while following the policies, you can try to work on the policy makers, to see if there can be a slackening of said policies. One of the things I've learned in life, is that griping about something doesn't fix it. Being proactive can.
Again, though, my apologies about your hernia. I hope you're able to get everything taken care of and get back to trying to live a great life. All the best. -

I'm not commenting on your medical condition, for to do so may be deemed polite by others, but would be obviously insincere.
While some believe illness is karmic, perhaps punishment for harm done to others, I feel illness and freaky diseases are truly random.
For we are not created equal and some people simply luck up on the genetic draw, while others are dealt a bad hand. -

That's why they upset me so much. When I first started driving in 1990.. I'd see it every week, something major. Trucks turned over. Truck vs Auto highway accidents. Lane change accidents which almost always produce a fatality, or something very bad.
All we are doing mostly is hauling toilet paper, pencils, ..whatever. They act like the whole world will blow up if it's late.
Lately, there have been many serious accidents. That one down in Oklahoma, and the last one I saw at Odessa, MO right past the scale. I do not know HOW anyone could have survived it.
One truck was upside down. One was clear up in a tree. I thought it was 4 trucks but only three. It hit so hard that it snapped the wheels off and they were all over the road. The cabs crushed, I do not see how anything could have survived it.
There wasn't nothin' left of 'em. There were several lifeflight choppers out there, and a staring crowd of specatators.
When I am tired, I just pull it off of the road. Many companies do not like this. Some days I can drive 800 miles.. some days, man I can't do 350.
At this moment, there are lots of obstacles. That construction is dangerous out there, especially at night in the rain where you cannot see the new lane markers. -
The work is easy but the pay is horrible. I drive 2800 to 3200 miles a week and only make after taxes around 600 to 800 a week. Groceries are expensive so that becomes even less. Definately not worth the cost of school and the sacrifice of being away from home. Any good trucking job will have to wait 2 years due to insurance requirements. So for 2 years you will starve and your family will be dirt poor. Find a better career like McDonalds or Walmart. Both pay the same and your home everynight paying normal prices for groceries.
