Welcome to the croud Mike ... I wouldn't work days in Charlotte for all the tea in China.
I guess the worst thing about nights is the fog in some places ... and in the winter the road will freeze up alot quicker due to the colder temps and the lack of traffic to keep the ice busted up. When it gets like that just slow down and take your time. I know that when it got bad last winter I took a full 12 hours to get to Florence and back ... about 240 miles ... it was ... in fact ... a solid sheet of ice ... from start to finish.![]()

It really is a whole different world on the night shift. Not just with eagle drivers but with all of the tanker drivers.

Yeah ... I think you're right. See how much fun you can have once the superficiality and the power plays and the politice are taken out of work. Just men working like they are supposed to do ... gettin' the job done ... without all the back stabbin' and trying to prove who can eat more feces than the next one. Just give us the tools that we need to get the job done and we'll knock it out and have a little fun along the way! Here we judge you by who you are and what you can do ... not by how much #&& you can kiss.

Been running pretty hard all week. Started to get heat cramps and saw heat exhuastion coming on so I turned a load in and went home early tonight. Hate turning loads in feel that I can't complain about making no money if I turn a load in. Selma (Night time dispatch) didn't give me a hard time. They know it is not my MO to turn loads in
Was reading on another thread about Tyson how all the all 4 of his dispatchers know his voice. Well all those guys and 1 gal know my Voice all I have to do is say this is Pat in Savannah and they are like Driver # ect ect. -
Speaking of safety meetings here's one for you.We only have one transport and one driver (me) and the Michigan state police came in the other day and said we have to start having safety meetings and since I'm on the fire dept and have haz-mat certification that I can be the one that holds the meetings so I guess now I get have meetings with myself hahahah don't you just love government
Just something I found to be quiet humorous and wanted to share.

Yeah Smoke ... it's awfully warm in Charlotte ... wouldn't even want to think about Savannah with all that white sand ... must be like an oven. You take care of yourself out here, ain't nobody around to catch you if you fall you could easily lay there beside the truck at some out of the way station at 02:30 in the morning and completely sweat out until stroke set in. Take care of yourself ... keep your salt up ... your intake of soft drinks down ... and your water consumption up. Start getting cramps ... dizzy ... throwing up ... etc ... you can go home or call dispatch and tell them your situation ... don't wait until you can't call!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gr8oldies ... try and get someone to video tape one of your safety meetings .... love to see you answering your own questions ... now that would be PRICELESS!
Gr8oldies Thanks this. -

Been a heat causulty before to much running around FT Hood TX wearing complete MOPP IV in the Middle of July. Once you get heat exhuastion the more acceptable you are to it. I try to slowly drink a half gallon of water when I wake up, and have a good breakfast. I keep a coleman 1/2 gallon jug with gator aid in it. Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to a related problem resulting from the dilution of sodium in the body, hyponatremia. I know the signs and symtoms of heat exhuastion and know how far to push my body. I also force myself to eat during my shift also.

If you go to the grocery store you can pick up big jar of the gatorade powder then mix it in a water bottle. It is a cheaper way to do it then to keep buying gatorade at the gas stations. I can only handle so much water before I just get tired of it.
It is a whole different world on nights. One of the things that I have noticed is that the store clerks are a lot more friendly. The store customers are different as well.
