Hubby's truck started on fire while driving..highway patrol classified it as a crash and now it's on our safety rating..uuugh Tried the DataQ website to dispute it and this is what I got "since the vehicle had to be towed it's considered a crash" really??? Wow...so does that rule go for the general population too? or is that just another way for them to bend us over yet again??

If it were me, I would get an attorney knowledgeable in this area to look it over. It would be worth the few hundred dollars, if it can be changed.

That statement is correct. If it has to be towed then it goes against your safety rating and is considered the same as a crash.

Is this true for ANY tow job? Say you blow an engine and have to be towed in, is it considered the same as a crash?

I don't think it does in that case Big Don, only accidents. A fire is normally considered to be the same as an accident, not sure why but it is. I know that if there is an accident of any kind, regardless if the truck is at any fault or not, and any vehicle involved gets towed then it goes against the companies safety rating as a ding.

EDIT: I'm guessing they called 911 for this. If they put the fire out themselves and then just called for a tow truck then it probably would not have done anything to their safety rating but it sounds like the police and fire/rescue were involved and that's why.

Big Don and Lilbit Thank this.

As I said, if you want to try and not have this on the safety rating, pay for a good attorney, and hope for the best.

That's just amazing. Someday they are gonna push a driver over the edge and he's gonna go balistic on some DOT or DAC office. I'm not saying I would condone it, but as long as no kids got hurt, I would definatly look the other way if he ran pass me while running from the law. I'm sick of all this threatening to fired, huge fines, jail time, etc, etc, when most of us are just trying to do a job. How many other jobs do you get fined and jail time if you mess up. The only other jobs like that I can think of is either police work or a US soldier.
