oldmack--I have to tell you I am guilty of your offense of witholding information. Anytime I give it out too far in advance, I always seemed to get burned. Something changes & the driver is PO's, driver fails to call in from a stop along the way and misses some piece of information, etc. I like to share information with the driver, but time and again it bites me in the arse. I am sure I am not the extreme of your example, but I don't get too far ahead of the action on the field either.

Not surprising...lots of action on this thread. Seems to me to speak of the difficulties you all face with your travel agents. That or the importance they play in your lives/livelihoods.

Just be honest ....I'm a 41 yr old grown man, don't lie to me, I may not like what your going to tell me, but if you lie to me I can't respect and believe anything else you tell me from this point on. I guess dispatchers don't think that drivers out here talk to each other, but I have caught dispatchers in so many lies just in casual conversations with other drivers.
If I do you a "favor" and pull your ##### out of the fire, just remember that you owe me one and some day I would like you to return the favor.

Be upfront, tell them your hands are tied and you can only pay your bills by being deceitfull...........the truth is too ugly to bare. Try that! lol

Mr Dispatcher, Try this I have never driven a truck or the route, or been made to exist under the condictions I dispatch. Please just know that I am at the mercy of the Suits as you are. I resent having to crap on people in order for me to just get a little less slung at me. Try that! ( I got more).

Honesty goes first. Self-confident. I want to hear it in his voice over the phone. Articulate but not too talkative. That last quality he/she can spare for customers.

What if their being honest.....is not a job requirement? what if they are honest with the driver.......they lose their job? My point is......I think the next animal on the trucking food chain is the dispatcher. Nope Ya better own the #### company and not work for it! lol

Honesty is always the best policy in any game.

Now withholding information in an ever changing environment like trucking I wouldn't necesarrily call lying. Depnds on the circumstances.

If it's info you have about a load I have or am about to pick up then yes with holding Info is you being deceitful and as far as I am concerned Lying.

If it's about 3-4 other loads you MAY have for me after I drop the one I have now, Then withholding that info until I'm ready to head for one I wouldn't consider a Lie. No need to get my hopes up on a situation that could change and even be gone before I get there.

Transparancy also helps: If you tell me you got 3-4 load waiting and if I want to be home for the weekend I need to make sure I'm the first one in for those 3-4 cause one is going to my home town. If I'm late the one going my way home will be given to someone else because it needs to go. If you've also told 2-3 other people the same thing on the same loads "Say so" and tell me when and where they were when you told them. If they were 50 miles out 30 mins ago and I'm 150 then I know there is NO way I can make it!!! No fault on you and No fault on me. You were Tranparent, Open, and Honest!!!

Communication (and not BSing) is a BIG one as well. If a person is Honest, Communicates, is Open and Transparent all those traits seem to flow together and make life easy on boths sides.

You got loads that need to get moved and we need to move them for you.

Remember it is a Team Effort, and your the Coach. You tick off the players and everyone looses.

Also don't forget People are Individuals. Just because BOB called in and ticked you off because he was making an ##### of himself, don't take it out on Joe when he calls in (unless of course he is doing the samething)
