Does anyone have any info about Driver Solutions? How does it stack up against other schools?

i haven't any "first hand" knowledge of this school, but i'll tell you what.......in my learned opinion (and by the way, i am an instructor at a driving school).......most schools are all the same........

    a salesperson meets with you.

    you ask questions

he asks questions, but gears them up towards your feelings, not facts

he sells you a "bill of goods" which ain't worth the toilet paper its printed on

    you attend school.

at times you have complaints for whatever reason.........

the salesman says, "'well they must have changed policy around here, i was gone a few days"

you try and find a job.........and you can't........the salesman says, "well they must have changed thier hiring policy".......

so in all.............all schools are alike. go for hours total time, money, financial aid, student loans, grants, days, nights, weekends, whatever you can go for........compare schools too if you can.............

    maybe thier "policy has changed".........

I went to c1 in INDY last year....this is my opinion....Im sure some have had a positive expereince there...however Im glad it did not work out for me. First and foremost READ THE CONTRACT...they tell you you are getting paid .28 a mile...in actuality its more like 20 after you get hired with a company that pays for your training....the company deducts so much from your pay...the hotel I was in was a complete dump....they were pimping prostitutes from the room on one side and selling dope from the other...bring lots of lysol.....the school itself wasnt that bad...only it was about 15 minutes from the hotel we stayed in...so if you flew in or caught a bus...hope you find someone quick to catch a ride to class with. I think c1 as a whole was pretty good for a 3 week school....however most reputable companies with better pay will only take you if you graduate from a tech school or community college OR have some experience......The reason I did not stay at c1 was my birth certificate was wrong....turned out to be a blessing.... again just my opinion....best of luck

Driver school's recruitment seems the same or worse than a driver mill.

I told my school I had 2 DUI's (many years ago) up front, turns out many companies will not even consider me and I believe there may be an issue running in Canada. Not a word said.
They had no problem taking my money though.

10 months later I still have not found satisfactory employment in the industry. May not be your story but food for thought.

I am no longer disclosing any history beyond 3 years as I was not a commercial driver then. Thankfully my DUI's were in another state and I have held a license in this state for 5+ years, my current employment DMV print out comes up empty and that is all most look at. Last interviewer asked if I had held a license in another state in the last 3yr, no is the answer. I am no longer going to shoot myself in the foot what I did 20+ years ago is irrelevant. Any company that wants to shove a microscope that far up my past, is probably not someone I want to work for. They are most likely trying to deflect inquiry/attention to their own business practices.

My schools employment assistance has not gone beyond their recommendation to apply at the local mills (who they probably get a spiff from).

I too am considering attending C1 in Little Rock, AR via Driver Solutions after a pre-hire with PAM Transport. After asking many questions and reading thru the forum, I will say this.

Don't base your criteria for a good school on what the motel or dorms are like. You are there to attend school and get your CDL. Don't expect the Ritz. It's gonna be bare bones but there are plenty of drivers who went to C1 and now are successful drivers. That's the name of the game. The "accommodations" are just a place to sleep while you are schooling...

when filling out an application for a CDL job, you MUST go back 10 years of employment, its the law.......fail to do this and only go back 3 years will get you out the door.

even UPS wanted me to disclose 10 years of employment, and i was at the time applying for an inside job, no driving whatsoever......

so go ahead and NOT go back 10 years...........
