I have a question for everyone. I have my class A CDL permit. There is a company here in Houston that "teaches" you the skills necessary to pass the DOT skills test to get your license. They dont have any classroom work and only teach the driving skills needed to pass the test.
Is this a good idea? Will I have a better chance getting a job with my CDL license even though I have Zero hours driving? or is this just a waste of time and money.
Any help would be appreciated, My other option is to find a company sponsored training program.
Thanks

Should I do This?

You really need a good trucking school. Not to many will hire you without it due to insurance reasons.

OTRDOC, look before you leap. If you insist on taking this route, at least line up an employer first. I have read in this forum that some drivers have taken this route. In fact, I have seen a few, and even applied to ad for a driver with a class B with "the ability to attain a Class A license within 30 days". So there maybe a few companies that will hire you, but not many. But as i've said, I think you're better off putting the horse before the cart. IMO proper education and training are vital, and should not be short cut. Even graduates of Class 'A schools are once again considered students once they are hired by companies. But if you're bent on getting into trucking asap, I urge you to consider taking company sponsored training as an option. This would hopefully insure good training, and save you some dough. Good luck in your search !!
