I just picked up my truck for my new job. The only problem I have besides it being filthy is that it smells like a freakin ash tray. It has ashes all over the floor and everything. I bought some febreez and air freshener, but is there anything that can help with this smell besides that?
How do I not make my truck smell like a ashtray?

There's a thread here somewhere. -
on your days off----grab some paper towel---soak it in vanilla--leave it in truck with windows up----when you get back should be nice and fresh
-
used to use the coffee thing in trailers after they had a stinky load---works good
and its a common drug smuggler trick--supposed to throw off the dogs i guess -
Clean the carpet and wash all hard surfaces, you will never get it out of the A/C.
You did document it's condition and got signatures before accepting the truck, right?
If not you may be held responsible for it's condition..... -
Thanks for the tips, I will try them all. Yes I took pictures and documented everything.

Here's a "trick" I was told...I've used it, and it works very well...place a scented dryer sheet in between a sheet of cheesecloth, on the A/C filter.
Replace once a week. Not only does the scented dryer sheet make the truck smell nice, but the cheesecloth also keeps a lot of hairs, and dust, and debris off of your air filter, thus saving you having to replace the filter as often.

also, if this truck is a sleeper, then you must repeat this process in the bunk a/c system as well.
then what i would do is buy some "simple green" and with several clean rags, i'd get into every knook & cranny, and crevice in the sleeper interior, header(ceiling) the mattress, everywhere the smoke will permeate into.
this is all going to take a long time to clean and deodorize. once the truck is as clean and odor free as possible, have a sign that says, "no smoking" and tape it to the dashboard, so that when a mechanic or other service person jumps in it, he will see the no smoking sign(s)........usually though, "most" service techs will not smoke in a truck as a matter of respect.simplyred1962 Thanks this.
