Hello all! I'm a photographer in Louisville, KY looking to start a project in which I photograph tractor trailers, specifically those carrying cargo on flat-bed trailers.
My first question, which I might already know the answer to: where is the best place to do this? I'm thinking rest areas and truck stops. I had also thought about weigh stations, but I'm not sure what kind of restrictions I would face there.
That brings me to my second question: would drivers and owner-operators be receptive to this? I don't even plan to have the drivers in the photos, just the truck, but is there any reason this would be an issue? I'm certainly sensitive to privacy issues, and my work is strictly in a documentary style, so any brands or logos would not be shown in a negative light (if at all).
Thank you for your feedback in advance!

privacy issues and also some copyright issues also I believe as some companies logo's are trademarked.
Nothing worse than seeing your trk. and trl. posted on some add or sign post and you had no say in it.
My trk. was on a anti wind site one time.
They got away with it,because it did not show the company name or my name, but I knew it was my trk. and I knew just where and when they took the pic. -
Got that right passingthru! No matter what, you need to either get permission to photograph the property, or plan on never using it for anything. Copyright is serious business for photographers. We don't want our photos being used without our permission, so we need to respect that for those that own the property we want to photograph.

if your on a public road your truck, load and driver is open game. Photographers don't need your permission. How do you think paparazzi get away with what they do? Hollywood stars have tried to beat down picture takes and have paid through the nose in court.

Paparazzi get away with it because what they are shooting is 'technically' 'news'. A rather lame way of getting away with what they do. The news excuse is hard to use in too many cases. I am a photographer, and have looked at it closely. That and I have some scruples about what I will and will not shoot. I want people to respect that my photos are my property, so I will respect that something I am thinking about photographing is someone else's property.

Here is a good blog for you if your interested. The UK is cracking down on public photos due to terrorism issues.

I don't know if you are looking to take pictures, or just like seeing them and can't find enough existing ones.
If the latter, here is the granddaddy of all truck photo sites:

You can literally spend days clicking through what's there. Enjoy. -

Well, first of all, as a trucker and CNN Photographer, ANYTHING in public view is fair game, you DO NOT need anyones permission to shoot it, publish it etc. Look up the laws for media access!. You may NOT go on private property without permission, You may go on local & state property with the proper press identification. Do NOT use your photos(with someones truck in them) to endorse a product without consent of the truck owner.
You might look at a very dear friends work, who is now passed, Bette Garbor, She made quite a living by taking photos of trucks........................... -
u sholuld go to lexington ky and photograph some horse trucks around the farms
