APU idling is also banned under these laws - so that will not make a difference. Reefers however are not - go figure.
These companies will not change until market pressure dictates - and it will take some time for that to happen.
The management of these companies , nor the politicians (actually making these policies) will not be held personally responsible for any deaths associated with their policies - because of this, lawsuits will simply be settled or dragged out in the usual manner.
Don't count on anything changing anytime soon, and "complaining" won't change it (did it ever?).
Everyone will have to take personal responsibility for their own well being (was it ever any different?) Whether idle laws or fuel costs - I think we all knew this was coming either way.
Leave that company, that state, or the industry entirely - but don't count on any laws, lawsuits, or anything else to look out for your safety.
Idling exemption ends, leaves room for Texas-sized enforcement

I personally have a low tolerance for heat, my a/c hasn't been working in my truck this week and it was in the 90's. I ended up off work for 2 days due to heat exhaustion. My company told me to get a room at night and they will pay for it! But not many companies are going to do that. How many drivers are going to die from a heat stroke, or other heat related illness before these dumb### politicians wake up. We have to be able to stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter, no load is worth dying over. I lost out on a load that would have paid me $990.00 in a company truck. I'm not happy about it but I'm still alive. Stay safe this summer, stay cool.

we just paid a $300.00 idiling ticket in California for idiling 8 minutes. My husband had gotten out to do a check on his trailer before leaving the truckstop and to slide the tandems which have to have full aiir to do this and had some trouble sliding them so when he got back in the truck to leave he was doing his log so he could take off when the arb officer gave him a ticket for idling too long. We have an apu on the truck but was also told that it is not legal in California. maybe if trucks stopped going to california they would change the laws. we were told if we didn't pay the fine that if he got stopped they would impound the truck. we tried to fight it but the arb didn't want to hear what we had to say. what was really ironic was the office that gave him the ticket was smoking a cigarette.

When they made w their governor that should have been your sign.

W was a good Governor!!
The Idgit F### we have now needs to be S$$$Canned!!
Unfortunately for us we are having the same issue that Az. had through the 90's. Californians moving in cause it's cheaper than Cali, but wanting to do all the stupid s$$$ they did that screwed Cali. and Az. up.
Your in Texas now!! You don't like the way we do things GO back to Cali!!!Injun and lonewolf4ad Thank this. -
These are elected officials passing these laws. They are not appointed. Where is the ATA or the Texas Trucking association or whatever? It's a shame that none of these orgs can apply enough pressure or raise enough points to have laws such as this voted down or politicians removed.
Then again IMO I don't believe they actually want to. This is a means to an end just like CSA2010 , huge companies and those with money and clout want these laws as a way to decrease competition. Truckers often act like these things just happen over night in a back room or something. Well they don't. And if you don't stop motions before they become laws you live with them.
Im sorry but buy an APU . go to work for someone who has them or suffer now. Too many only read about legislation when it is passed and not when it is proposed. The big guys are trying to kill off the little guys. Deal with it or leave the industry. -
Better yet, save up a little scratch, buy your own rig, and never set a tire in these places with no respect and no common sense. They don't like the thought of starving to death, hey, they can always go ask the mexicans to haul for them.

For me, I'll skip the truck show in Dallas, I have a pet, don't have an apu. So I guess the GATS show and Dallas will lose some of my money. I don't understand why GATS is having their show in an unfriendly trucking town. I'll wait for the Louisville truck show. Hey GATS why not take your show to OKC or another town. I know they would enjoy your money that you bring in. IMHA

This is one reason I keep a dog with me. They'll let a human die from heat exhaustion. But leave a pet in a hot truck and you be charged with cruelty to animals.
I don't see how a state can put limits on APU's. Many RV's use generators of sorts too. -
What a Joke! Close the curtains and idle away..
