It's what you make of it.
Part of the job.
Sunsets and rainbows.
If you got it, a truck brought it.
BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jakebrake12 Thanks this. -
$21 an hour is just shy of most big LTL top rates - they're between 22 and 26 right now and that takes a few years. If you can hire into that you're crazy not to.
Paddington Thanks this. -
It's been said: Do it.
The only reason not to has also been said: If your domestic life is super rocky and you feel better off away from home.
Worried about DAC trashed? If your new boss doesn't care, don't sweat it. DAC info can be disputed, too, just like a credit report. -
Why even bother to ask?
-
I agree - From a financial standpoint, go with the hourly. If other things are more important to you (love of the road, etc.) and the family things will work out, then stay where you are.

As with most of us ( me included) we ALL only look at a small frame of a very large picture. The large picture being what we want our life to look like 15/20 years ( or more down the road).
Got kids and a life you would like to be more of a part of ? Take the local job. More times than not this is a one way street for awhile. The big picture is what are you going to have to sell ( bring to the table) should this one local job go away a few years down the road. Bills NEVER stop. If there is a large local market for the skills and KNOWLEDGE you will have with you to market yourself you'll NEVER look back at the road. If however local jobs in your area are rare and the good paying ones are almost nonexistent reconsider your move.
If you leave the road for a few years and then want to come back, guess what, you'll be considered a newbee. NO RECENT ROAD EXPERIENCE.
I personally worked OTR for over 22 years. Lived and worked out of Chicago. Made a change to local after a divorce and worked local for the next 10 years. At first on the local side I didn't have much to market. As time went by though ( KNOWLEDGE ) I could ALWAYS find another job with more pay. Fast forward to today. I've moved to an area ( So. Il ) where local jobs aren't very well paying so I ran OTR with a company for a few months to see if I still liked it and it would fit my life now. It does, but to get with a GOOD carrier and make some quality money they all ( almost) want the same thing. At least 1 year ( sometimes more) of verifiable OTR experience. -
It depends where you live. Northern big cities are alot higher than down south.
But to the question. Take the local job. You'll make more money because of less road expenses. Home every night with family and friends. Overtime pay! Go for it! Good Luck! -
What I want to know is who voted for OTR?
