At http://www.ghsa.org/html/stateinfo/laws/cellphone_laws.html shows the present status on cellphone laws.
Many more states are looking into passing these laws.
At http://www.ghsa.org/html/issues/cellphone.html has some information on "Distracted Driving." This is how they describe the use of cellphone use while driving.

Hhhmm how many crashes have we had due to people using their CB's as opposed to people with a cell phone wedged in their ear...or even better while they're texting their friends? And yet CB has been around for 50 years.
Besides how many people besides truck drivers and 4X4 clubs and maybe the occasional traveler actually use the CB anymore?
Whoever made this one up clearly has their head where the sun doesn't shine. I think I'd be more worried about someone texting than someone using their CB.
But then again in this poor economy I suppose someone has to get their revenue money from somewhere....? -
SO FAR here they have only TALKED about that law ....
There is NO DATA about truckers crashing with a CB radio nore is there data about HAMS .... So any law would be blowing smoke from the pllace you talked about
I have been licensed since 1963 and driving since 1967 I have NEVER had a ticked or been charged with a crash ..... Last time was 15 years ago when a COP HIT ME .....
YET my insurance tells me I'm a risk because my credit rating is not as high as they want ...Intresting since I have 220,000 miles on my 2004 Corolla and an't hit anything yet ..... nore with the Camary that we sold with 240,000 on it ot the Pontac 2000 that blew up at 110,000 and this was the car that replaced the Grand prex that the cop hit .........
They don't even go to I'm a diabetic with bad eyes and shooting insulin ever 2 hours ..... YET
Just think what a CB radio would be worth to them ....... $$$$ .....outerspacehillbilly Thanks this. -
If they pass it, other states will follow. Canada has it in the works already but its on a 3 year deal

In Jan 11 the cell phone ban goes into affect here in De. You can use hands free but not the physical phone to the ear.

It's just another trivial law I won't abide to......just like so many others.
Oh well
-
My gues is it's a MONEY MAKER like seat belts

Now remember If you run a LEAGAL CB you are LICENSED by the FCC this is why PREMPTION laws such as PL 106-521 don't apply to LEGAL CB radios.
SO just hope it says LICENSED BY FCC ....
outerspacehillbilly and lego1970 Thank this. -

***MY PERSONAL OPINION***
This "law" is most likely aimed at all of those "drivers" who only talk trash on the CB, while driving.
Ya'll know the one's I'm speaking of...all those, "I ain't got no panties on", or those talking trash about females, or those just "baiting" other drivers into arguments, over the CB.
The RESPONSIBLE drivers, use the CB, as it should be used...as a source of information, as to road conditions, accidents, detours, etc.
Why punish the RESPONSIBLE users of the CB???

Morning Judi
This law and most others are about distracted drivers not content of messages. The law makers think that drivers are too stupid to talk and drive at the same time .....
As for CONTENT of CB that is a FCC matter and to be honest they don't really care what CB/HAMS talk about unless you break THEIR rules ....
Talking about womens body parts or the hot date the night before is in bad taste and anoying to others that have to lissen to them ( like my wife ) but is not covered by any stupid state laws this one included. Some people just have no class or think acting like a retarded ape makes them sound like more of a man but a wise man once said " It's better to keep your mouth shut and make people THINK your stupid that to open it and remove all doubt" .
Now both myself and the wife are licensed HAMS and we have both CB/HAM radios in the car so we get to hear it for ourselves you can't limit being stupid and we have heard our shair and I've been licensed 47 years and we have been married almost 29 so she is used to it sometimes just shaking her head and wondering if HIS better half can hear him
YES even the HAM bands has a place you them to go ..... check out 75 meters at night.
Just my 2 Cents ...
