Good morning all. I have been plugged into the pc the last month or so doing research on different training companies. I have narrowed the list down to four possibilities. Thought it might be time to throw the list out to get some opinions.
The most important factors to me are: safety, reasonable home time, and training. (i.e., I want to go otr for experience and to learn the business from the ground up.)
Pay is a factor, but only after factors listed above. I'm gettin' hitched in July, so after we settle in now is the time to go ovr before we have a kid or two.
Maverick and Roehl are battling it out as my two top options right now. I like some physical work so flatbed appeals to me, and Roehl's 7/3-7/4 option seems very appealing to a soon to be newlywed.
Schneider has a great training school, but of course I will sacrifice home time, and will give an 18 month commitment. (not a big deal, I expect to do 2 years otr to qualify for my ideal driving jobs.) CRS would be my last choice, although I think reefers would be a bit more interesting, and I think the miles would be really good.
So...I respect the advice of the folks on this site and I thank ya'll for that in advance.

Thanks Streak...from what I've read here on the site, SN has really been turning things around the last few years...and their training program is very well respected. I could do much worse than putting in my 2 years with them.

Right on. Thanks for the well wishes. I'm thinking the otr lifestyle (I know it is a lifestyle not a job) would not be for me longterm. But even if I am ready to be home nightly after 6 months otr, I will keep my eyes on the prize.
It is kind of a right of passage, a paying of your dues. I will likely need 2 full years experience to get a local job with a company such as McLane. If it takes 2 or 3 years to get the best job I will stick it out...and have as much fun as I can being on the road for we only live once and should always try to enjoy life however we can.
As a side not, I am pretty surprised no one has chosen Maverick, I thought their reputation was pretty good in the industry.
