well as the title asks, should you ever swerve to avoid hitting an animal........??

some here may say, "when it's safe to do so".........but when in the world is it EVER safe to swerve an 18 wheeler.........???

hit the animal, the clean up won't be that bad.

if your company requires an accident report, then write one up, take plenty of pictures.

you might, or might not be charged with an accident, but I can assure you, hitting an animal is much better than rolling over a big rig.

You don't allow for any disclaimer's in this poll. What if a person is on the animal, i.e., riding a horse? I guess that would then be swerving to avoid a human and not an animal. Although some here would argue that a human is an animal.

and i will NOT put any disclaimers.......

you ever hit a person on a horse, you're probably driving too fast on a country road..........and you should be looking all around you, KNOWING you are on a country road. i think the poll suffices well enough.

in a realistic light, we are all god fearing men and women. we enjoy life, and living creatures (the animal kingdom). but we must realize the physics (or the laws of it) play an important part here.

none of us WANT to hurt, maim or kill a human being, much less an animal. but we (when driving big rigs) have to resign ourselves to the fact that we too must survive, not only the possible wreck, but the consequences of our actions. at highway speeds, no one, car driver or truck driver can stop on a dime. even a car driver faces certain disaster from swerving.

yes, i'm sure if we were to hit any human being, "ON A HIGHWAY", there will be an investigation. but the end results........??........no charges.........how can any police agency charge a driver when you're on a highway, and someone, or something, walks out in front of you??? you should pull over as soon as possible of course, and call the police..all highways i have been on had signs that say, "no pedestrians" which by the way, would include, someone walking from their car if it was broke down..........as its MUCH safer to stay WITH the car and wait for help to arrive.

so in the end.............if it's an animal, DO NOT SWERVE............

    the consequences are too extreme.
