DB it wouldn't surprise thats why the criminal was robbing the store. What gets me is the stupid stuff people do while sober. Some of it we both see on the road.

    dieselbear,
I just want your opinion on this... a classmate of mine, her first job, hauling water to oil wells here in ND, got pulled over by the DOT. She said she didn't have current tags/permits on the trailer. DOT wrote it up as a warning, she got back to headquarters and let them know, they said "Oh we have the sticker permits here somewhere...no worry." A week goes by and I am talking to her....she says I am getting a lil pissed....they keep blowing me off when i mention i need my current tags (wich they say they have), they say, oh don't worry. She is new and doesn't want to make a stink.

My question how does she handle this?

    Don't drive the rig......Real simple......
Would she drive a rig with a cracked windshield or a flat tire?

She'll have to make that decison for herself, but I guess she was lucky with a warning.

So making that "killer" money is more important that following the rules and regulations that a CDL holder must follow?

What drives DOT crazy is not breaking a law or having a minor equipment violation on occasion per se....But knowingly driving with the deficiencies or repetitively breaking the law.....

Having a CDL is not a right....it is a Privilege........

I agree, I am asking/telling for this exact reason. She told me straight out they won't bother to find the permits...but tell her...we have them somewhere...

She is 24 making 21.60/hr working 12 hour days that are really 14.

I agree with dieselbear, she knows the rules....but reality bites.

Then she needs to tell them, kindly and gently, to GET OFF YOUR FAT ARSE AND GET THE FREAKING (only don't use freaking, use the other F word) PERMITS, NOW ######! If that doesn't work, tell them bye-bye. There are other jobs out there. Maybe they don't pay as much.

But I'm pretty sure that if they are this way on paper work for the truck, they are also this way on maintenance for the truck, and on following the law in other matters. She likely does not need this outfit nearly as much as she thinks she does.

I know what you mean. I had just delivered a load to the Kroegers in Delaware OH and had gotten a load offer to Old Fort Oh...not on the map. So Im headed towards the Pilot to sort things out...very sparse traffic...and the Qcomm beeps. I pull over to do a very quick check and plug in some numbers on the GPS. Next thing I know, I have a Trooper at my drive window, shocked the crap outta me lol.

I told him what I was doing and hoped that was'nt causing any problems and that Id be leaving in a nano second. He ran my license and then we shot the crap for a few minutes. Dang nice officer. He asked me if I heard him on the cb. I didnt and now I know they also listen to the idiot box. lol

You're right reality does suck...but what I think that I have figured out from going over the "new" CSA 2010 stuff is that they( meaning DOT and Troopers) are gonna hold drivers more responsible than before, but the rules are not changing that much....they are a bit stricter but it looks like they are going to enforce them at a more frequent instances. I personally believe this is an effort by the DOT to "help" drivers out that want to be safe and run safe vehicles and log things legally. There are too many companies that in a backhanded way FORCE drivers to run illegal in crappy trucks....bring on CSA 2010 I say get rid of the dangerous companies and make the roads safer for all the good drivers
