I still think The Quiet Man was one of his best...and my favorite Duke movie hands down.

 

Never forget...

When I was a kid I went with mom and dad on the Universal Studios tour. Dad was a HUGE John Wayne fan...

The tour guide is going on about "movie magic" and how they could create all sorts of illusions. She said "For instance, did you know that John Wayne is really only 5'6" tall and that the way we got him to appear taller than his leading ladies was to dig a trench for them to walk and stand in while filming the scenes?"

Dad literally stood up out of his tram seat and said in a very loud voice, "Awww go on!" "You know that ain't right, it just ain't right." There was a seemingly long pause, and then everyone started laughing as the tour guide assured my dad that she was just kidding.

But the look on dads face...

Yeah....That Maureen O'Hara was, IMHO, the best lead female opposite the Duke they could ever have casted. What an elegant lady....
