If you can stick around here and get up to about 50 posts then you can use the private message feature.

Then folks will send you the info you need.

They won't put it here for everyone to see ............

USIS /HireRight/DAC are all the same. it is now known as HireRight (DAC reports). this is usually a background check for past jobs, motor vehicle records. drug/alcohol positive tests........your last employer (if a HireRight subscriber) would have made any entries when you left, then it wouldn't need to be updated anymore after that.

the trucking companies will still do a criminal background check on you as well, but that will be done when you go to orientation...........just the mere fact you got arrested will be "matter of public record"..........don't even unpack your bags when you get to orientation..........you wont be staying too long.........seriously...........:biggrin_25513:

the lying you did will haunt you.

They will no matter what find out. Like I said, it may not be today or next week but you could be driving down the road three months from now and get the call to come back to the terminal. I have seen it happen many, many times. Make sure you are upfront about everything. These companies have people that's job is to just investigate people. Keep in mind the truck you are driving's value is about $200,000. That doesn't include the average value of a load. Rougly a million dollars! They want to know everything about you. A lot of companies require you be bonded also. Many of these large companies also haul government loads too! I once hauled a load that contained plates for the US Mint. Something like that is #### near invaluable! One company, Western has a whole fleet of trucks that are armored and you can't even tell. Probably used to haul artillery or "top secret" stuff. Any way sorry for the rambling just thought I would throw some stories in there. Truckers like to tell stories!

I'm not here to pass judgment. You asked about your friend and we've told you what could potentially happen in the not so distant future.

If he's looking to get his felonies expunged, it sounds like these felonies were iffy to begin with. But if these are on his record and like you said, he's just trying to make money to support his family, he still should have been honest to begin with, some companies will hire you even if you have felonies. Lying about it means that when the company finds out about it, he will have lost their trust.

Like some on here have said, when he goes to orientation this is when they will possibly run a criminal background on him (guaranteed if it's a mega carrier) and when they find out he wasn't completely honest, he'll be headed for the door. This is not meaning to put your friend down, it's just the way it is.

Look at this from the company's perspective. Would you want someone who had a drug charge or a dui driving your equipment? It's not just the fact that someone did something stupid, but that they show a propensity to do something nefarious and now they're driving the company's rig and not just that, but the liability is something most companies will not be willing to chance and I don't blame them.

All it takes is one accident, even if it's not a fatal, for someone to sue the heck out of the company because they had knowledge that their driver had a criminal background. This is every ambulance chasing lawyer's wet dream. This is not my place to lecture this person about making a less than wise choice, but it is how businesses work.

If your friend can get his record expunged, good for him. Maybe he should be working on this before he goes into this industry? This way he doesn't have to walk around waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak.

Agreed. They haven't finished looking it up. N when they do find it, and you didn't tell em? Oh, boy... You may wanna look at the legal words you were "supposed" to read when you signed that line along the words "I certify that my answers are true and complete to the best of my knowledge.
If this application leads to employment, I understand that false or misleading
information in my application or interview may result in my release.
" Some even mention legal actions.

Again, many thanks to all. Does anybody know if a major carrier would repeat a background say after 3-6months. Who would they use to run background...Hireright, etc.? They wouldnt use the feds unless ur hauling fed loads...no? I heard the feds charge over 2k when private compnays use them. The fact he received a pre=hire letter would seem they have seen what they want. To go through all the trouble to cann u at orientation...would be a waste of resources..IMHO. This school hires directly for a well known carrier,,,who, well, has a somewhat bad rap amoung the seasoned drivers.

Any body have any leads on companys who hire non violent criminals that are still felons? In California. Less than 1yr old charges

Honestly... I know a couple guys with records here in Illinois drive for small businesses. Infact one of em just got released from a sentence for grand theft. They drive for this O/O dude that owns 3 trucks. They are getting paid crap($10/hr), but at least they got the job. Good luck to you tho. Hope you find a better deal over there in Cali.

background checks are done through the state DA's office, the DMV, HireRight, SterlingInfosystems, EmployeescreenIQ, Infocubic, datacheckinc, and the list goes ON............!!

its whatever company or companies the trucking outfit HAS to check you out.......!!!!!

as far as "repeat" checking of one's background, why are YOU so worried about it........??? i mean, you did state this for "your friend" right......????

as i said, "give up the notion of being a truck driver", you already have shown you lie on job applications and school entrance forms as well.........you cannot escape your past or your lies...........

Don't forget that if a felony does exist, even if it isn't posted yet. Crossing the border will get them into a heap of trouble. They could be stuck in that "gray" area for a while once one Customs refuses them and they now have to try to re-enter the US. They can forget about a FAST or TWIC card most likely. The FBI and DHS do a pretty thorough check along with fingerprint scans.

Even though we are all "just dumb, unskilled truck drivers" we are one of the most highly regulated industries around. Most people don't realize that until it is too late.
