Sleeping in a moving truck is something that some people can "train their brains" to do, while others are never able to. Willpower and toughness has nothing to do with it in my experience; and the logic that sooner or later you'll get so tired you won't care doesn't hold.

Before PLANNING on any sort of team endeavor, definitely make sure in advance that you are someone whose sleep programming can handle it. Try before you buy, in other words.

 

I'm sure he would be fine. He outta be used to sleeping in planes, helicopters, humvees. Let alone used to going 3-4 days with no sleep, and really f-ed up sleep schedules by now.

 

Point taken. He certainly sounds like a good candidate to be a "moving sleeper."

There is a difference between running on adrenaline and living in "surges" of several days duration followed by a day or two of sound sleep, though, and having to deal with it every night, week after week.

Mentioning it because I was both a Marine and a firefighter (Hotshot) who managed the one pretty well, but not the other. It was both a surprise and a disappointment.

 

And some say just don't idle. We don't care about your comfort.

 

Hey fellow veteran, I think you should use the GI Bill anyway you can. Stay away from the Military.com So called military friendly schools, they charge 30k for a degree and never see a campus and twice as much as a general college and you will lose the campus life of learning. I only used a part of my GI Bill and regret not finishing. I made alot of mistakes when I got out, I had 10k saved after a 6 month deployment and partied it all away. I learned my lesson. Taking classes online while trucking is a great idea. Finding Goverment jobs on USAJOBS.com most require a degree or special skill set. I was in Air defense and not able to use anything so it was a 3 year waste of time for me. I should of stayed in and reclassed. Good Luck keep us posted.

I worked for Schneider for 14 months. Believe it or not, they aren't as bad as most people might think! They have a yard in Dallas.
But please, don't just take my word, look it up yourself, STAY AWAY FROM KNIGHT TRANSPORTATION OR KNIGHT REFRIGERATED OR SQUIRE (their training division)!!!
