Thanks, I'll give that a try. Too bad I called DMV and not DOT.

Actually, DMV girl told me that the Dealer Plate would have been legal, although I suspect this information as I suspect most info I get from them. She seemed really confused about my situation.

My biggest beef with my Dealer is their inability to be proactive in helping me get this accomplished. Maybe its just the way this business is. Cash my Big Check and ignore any other needs I may have regarding the truck.

They could've at least come up with the suggestions I got here, don't you think?

Watch getting answers from the DMV. The plate would have been legal. However, they may not put 2 and 2 together right and realize the transaction is completed when the truck was sold to you and they are no longer the owner.

It is a fine line and when dealing with the commercial aspect out on the road, you are subjected to the federal laws if you cross a state line.

Rather complicated, but the best for all parties.

I actually drove mine without plates when I got it. I did not get the companies plate until the next day.

LINE 1 of the NYS "In Transit" permit application.

Seems as though I don't legally apply to any of these.

I'm transporting the vehicle from NY to PA for a body and back to NY for registration.

    What do you
    want to do?
Transport this vehicle to register it at some place outside of New York State.

Transport this vehicle within New York State to register it in another part of New York State.

Transport this vehicle to obtain the required NYS Department of Transportation or NYS Heavy Vehicle inspection (see page 2 for requirements).

Change information on a current in-transit permit.

Tell them what they want to hear... or run without a plate.

A couple of years ago, I would have done this without even bothering you guys! But the older I get the more chicken ##### I get.

What happens in one of those I81 DOT checks? Hopefully waived through, but not my luck. I seem to have a safety check magnet attached to my ###.
