Rand did not decide to change the setting back to un-muted and very loud. Some behind the scene code writing had to go on between software and firmware. This is a setting that needed to be "stored". Rand has been working on this and it should be fixed in the next version.
On this note - If you make changes to your settings, allow at least 30 seconds for the software to "poll" the settings and store the new settings.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Mark, I got home yesterday to find the FedEx box on the table. I backed up the old 500 and updated the new one in a few minutes. I walked outside to see a FedEx truck at the neighbors house so I ran in to grab the old 500, gave it to the FedEx driver and it's on the way back to you.
I have never had this kind of service with any company, Thanks RM and thank you again Mark.Mark Kling Thanks this. -
Just received my TND 700. I've been playing with it in my car to see how it compares to my Garmin nuvi 755t. So far I'm leaning toward my non truck Garmin, but that may be because of the learning curve of the new one. Its definitely different than the nuvi. One thing I rely on heavily on my nuvi is total distance to destination, so far I haven't been able to find it on my TND 700, just distance to turn. If anyone can tell me how to bring up total distance it would help, If that features not available the unit's getting sold as I need a running tally of miles to destination. Another category it falls short in is detail. I brought up my home on the map & it identifies only a portion of my streets & roads unlike the nuvi that identifies virtually all the streets. I'm leaving out Mon & will try it in the truck & see how it plays out. Thanks for any help.

did you try to zoom in? Try the "-" and "+" on the map screen to the right.
Their are many different buttons under buttons on the TND. It may just take sitting down and looking at each screen and touching all buttons to see what they do.
Remember the other navigation unit you have probably does not have truck routing on it, so many routes will be different. The TND tried to keep you on truck legal routes.
Thanks

Thanks guys for all the information on the TND series of GPS units. I've been playing with mine in my car since I picked it up on Friday. One of the first things that I do with a new GPS unit is drive downtown on 1st Street and hit the take me home feature. On the east side of the street it's all storefronts for about three blocks. There are no side streets on that side at all. However every GPS unit that I have owned has tried to route me through the front window of the furniture store. When I pass on that little scenario it then tries to route me through the front door of the Chamber of Commerce office. Alas the TND 700 is no different. Today when I am out and about playing with it I'm going to check for the other little quirk prevalent in other GPS units..... routing me the wrong way from the north end of the street I live on. On my street at the end of the block, just north of me, the street turns into a one-way going north up to Black Oak Avenue. If I am coming down Black Oak Avenue and hit the take me home button every GPS unit I have owned has tried to route me the wrong way on a one-way street. Over the next few weeks I will be testing this unit extensively. One thing I will be looking for, which is quite prevalent in all my other GPS units, is the annoying habit of listing the street you are turning on by their street name rather than highway, or County Road number. I always check my routing before leaving and it's somewhat disconcerting when it tells me I'm going to be turning on Oak Street instead of highway 212. For someone familiar with the area that's no big deal as you know Oak street and 212 are one and the same, but if you're from the area you don't really need a GPS unit do you. For someone not familiar with the area it can be a head scratcher. Anyway enough rambling on now, but just another thanks for the help.

Rand knows that many OTR's do not know the local street name versus the US or State route. Rand tries to voice the US or local State route, but it is a little more comlicated in the code. I can check on this and if you do find an road that is not given in the preferred manner let me know.
Thanks,
Mark -
Just for the new folks that are reading this thread. I was OTR and Canada for 3 years, just coming off the road in 2009. I know what a driver needs and expects. I work with Rand closely to ensure that the TND is driver friendly. If you find an issue with the TND let me know. I post my E-Mail and welcome any and all comments or issues.
Thanks,
Mark -
Any idea yet when you're going to release the "goodies" list of the Sept 17 update?

im kinda curious how the exchange thing works. do i have to send in my unit before you can send me a new one or can you send a new one then i send mine back in that box? How long does it take to get a new unit?
-
I do work around that policy sometimes, since I know you spend a lot of time on the road. I do try to exchange a like item. If you have a T5C then I will exchange it with a T5C. I will not exchange a T7C for a T7E. I will go up sometime a model - for example a T5B for a T5C depending on the issues with the TND.
I do not have a warehouse in my office, so I am limited to what I have on hand sometimes.
If I do not have a TND to replace yours with then usually I will refer your case up to Rand Support. I do not make it a general habit to become Rand Support on each and every TND needing returned.
I was hoping that I would have a T7E in my stock once I finished unpacking from GATS, but atlas I do not. I will forward your case up to Rand Support.
Thanks,
Mark
