Hey everyone I'm going to chime into this really quick it's my first time posting on here so bear with me. I just have a few questions that I want to see if any one could answer. I have read through all of these posts doing research on Conway truckload to see if what they have told me is fact or fiction. For one I start orientation with Conway truckload in Joplin mo on the 13th of this month and I'm trying to find out if what they are feeding me about home time is bs they say that I will be working in the Midwest region which means I will be at home every weekend is there any truth to this? I am new to all of this and believe me I would prefer to just be a local driver I am married and have four kids and one on the way and family is the most important to me I would just wash dishes if it would pay the bills but I'm going where the work is. Does anyone Have any insight?

alot of companies promise you weekends off, but alot of the times it's 34 hrs off then back to work. example- get home saturday morning then leave to go back sunday 6pm.
-
Well that's not bad but is that for truckload or ltl ?
-
I have to assume that, since you're going to Joplin for orientation. Truckload side obviously.
From experience, ask yourself how much can you really get done in 34 hours?
Some of that will be spent sleeping...so you're down to 26 hours or less.
As you get into things (you may have the experience already) you'll use several of those precious hours shaking the road off (unwinding) when you come in.
We're down to about 22 or less.
How about the yard ? The car ? And a whole flurry of other things the wife and kids will be expecting.
Bottom line: How many quality hours remain for your family.
Dispatch will let you stay out more than a week, then let you take 2 days off. It is often better to work it that way.
But it still sux.
Due to your location. It's impossible for me to compare my regional job (with another company not in your area) to Conway Truckload. But I get 34 hours minimum off. Most weeks I get a solid 48 hours or more.
Having worked for CFI before they became Conway Truckload. Unless things have radically changed. They can't even touch my current job for hometime and mileage reliability. Although they consistently brag about "average" miles per week being one of the best in the industry LMMFAO.deuce83 Thanks this. -
I have no clue what to expect first the recruiter told me that they would have me running more locally and now regional. I just want them to be truthful to me what am I going to do?
-
Ooops. I just noticed you're in IL.
You'll have a better shot than most, getting access to some dedicated run. You may even get a local job in the future.
Unless they give you a day cab. You won't be running "local" anything. They buy the sleepers for a reason.
You want the truth? You'll be driving a truck, in a manner prescribed in all that paperwork they shove in front of you.
Want to know for sure 100% what you will be doing? Ask them to put it in writing...then fax it too you.
That ain't going to happen.
Please keep in mind. You still haven't stated whether you will be doing truckload or LTL. So all this could be mute.
While they may be owned by the same folks. There is a HUGE difference in operations and weekly pay.deuce83 Thanks this. -
Well hopefully if I am doing truckload I will get a dedicated route if I can't get LTL to begin with

Hi, I am the one that started this post.
My husband left Conway when he figured out the bottom line was just money. He was
got really sick and was emotionally spent.
It took him weeks to recover. This company ran him until he had nothing to give.
Four days passed before the branch manager even figured out he had lost an employee. (his secretary knew).
If you want to work for this company, go for it. I wish you all the luck in the world.
Just keep this post in your mind, when:
Red Flags start going off.
On your first day, the other drivers greet you with "say good bye to your life".
You are given 15 minutes of training and find out there are 3 hours of video tapes
the branch manager should have had you view.
When you are expected to drive triples with min. half hour of training on the highway only.
When management tells you they don't have time for a question.
When you have driven from 4 am to 6 pm and your day isn't anywhere close to being done because they have you log out of driving and log in on dock.
18 bucks an hour shows up as $3.20 cents on your paycheck because this company has you log in and out so many times per day per pending on what you are doing.
I am here to tell you that I had originally thought that I could not handle being married to a driver working for a really good company. HA
My husband took a new job, he is treated well and with respect.
It's made all the difference. Although he is gone during the week, it's fine.AF461 Thanks this. -
Very glad to hear that your husband found a better job congrats to you and him
Car Thanks this. -
If he is not willing to deal with that, he can always go to work for some government agency. The bottom line there, is POWER, not money. . .
As to the other stuff you have posted Car, it does sound like your hubby was working for a real jerk. Unfortunately, every company has their share of them. I'm glad he found something that suits him better!Car and Jarhed1964 Thank this.
