I took my Physical today for school and had high blood pressure.."nerves". I was given a 3 month card till I can get it under control. Will this cause me problems getting a job? Will the recruters BS me into thinking its not big deal? Is this a common problem? Thank you.
Blood Pressure problem...advice please

i too have high blood pressure. you will need to see your regular doctor for a physical and he/she will put you on meds. from there on, that doctor of yours will monitor your blood pressure on a regular basis and change your meds if he/she thinks that the ones you are on are not working. as for driving, anytime you go for a physical (DOT) you will have to tell them you are on blood pressure meds. you will only get a 1 year card from now on. as for recruiters giving you any BS, no, they shouldn't, as probably most of thier drivers are on those meds anyways. you may need a "note" from your doctor stating that you are on meds and the blood pressure is under control, and it is SAFE TO DRIVE A TRUCK. your employer may require you to get a note from your doctor every time you go for a DOT physical. this, i had to do with one employer i worked for.

Hey there Bearclaw. You mentioned "nerves" and high blood pressure. They can be connected. I am a RN. I have seen folks at home that were being treated for high blood pressure that always had high readings at the Dr. office but never at home. So (here is the cliche) RELAX!!!! All kidding aside- now days blood pressure can be managed. Just learn all you can about it and listen to your Doc and RN,. Later

I take a prescription diuretic to control my blood pressure, and therefore the DOT physical is required annually. That is an extra cost for my employer. Two years ago, my blood pressure was too high during the DOT. The doctor allowed me to retest after resting on the exam table in a dark room for 10 minutes. Then, I tested within the limits.

you will only hurt your chances for a better quailty of life if you don't take care of yourself now. sometimes a change in diet can help you too, like less fats, and eating more fruits/vegitables, and some little excercise like simple walking. but as i stated, go see your doctor.

YEP and just having your blood pressure checked will in some people cause a nervous reaction and make it go up.
When I know my blood pressure is going to be checked...I actually start taking deep breath's to slow my heart down and breathe in and out just before they take it.
It does work, which is a good thing for me

white coat effect n. The elevation of a patient's blood pressure readings caused by being in a doctor's office or clinic, or by being in the presence of a physician. -
hmmmm....."white coat effect".............
does that have anything to do with those "guys" in the white coats that come after me every once in a while.....????

That all depends. Are you talking about the ones we send your way?
