No, they do not have APU's. Company drivers are allowed to have an inverter as long as it is not hard-wired into the system. That means anything up to about 400w. Sorry about the microwave and refrigerator.

L/O's are allowed to have APU's installed, but the APU becomes the property of the leasing agent once it is attached to the truck...unless you fully purchase the truck. Once you drill holes to install something, it becomes part of the truck and you don't get to take it off if you leave. Oh, yeah...and the L/O foots the bill for purchase and installation of the APU.

But I digress. If a L/O has an APU, he or she is allowed to have a large inverter wired into the APU system. That's when you can get that microwave or refrigerator.

I had a refrigerator on my Swift truck. It wasn't the most powerful refrigerator, but it got the job done. Plugged into the cig lighter.

Are you sure on this? I've always been told the exact opposite.

    Same here.

was just informed by swift you can put inverters in the trucks buy the catch is you have to have the dealer do it so if you got a kw then you have to take it to the kw dealership and have them install it. its for warranty reasons incase something happens then swift can go after the dealer. but it would become there property and if they switch out the truck in 3 months

If no APU's then how are they on idle time ? You have to have heat/ac when sleeping

you didn't have a refrigerator. What you had was a cooler that would cool things down to 40 degrees below the ambient temperature.

No inverters in company trucks unless you have a CPAP machine prescribed by a doctor. Now some are 12V.

    Recruiters lie.

You can get 12V anything. Can't reccomend the microwaves as a friend had problems with his wiring. Volvos have elctricall issues, KW's too.

Our heaters need 9.6VDC to run. No engine needed. They burn diesel like an oil heater in a home. Mine did 90* in 24* in Wisconsin. Tested it today as it is going into the mid 40's tonight.

A/C? Gotta run the truck. I have heard some trucks might get APU's on this site, I haven't seen one yet.

BTW the Optiidle system was on Freightliners. AFAIK they are either sold or mothballed.
