I have been an OTR driver for the past couple of years.. And I hated it. I could NOT make money, no matter how hard I tried. It was all up to how much you kissed your dispatchers ### and fudged the logbooks.. I never kiss ### and I never falsify information.. I was raised better than that and I have morals. :) I know that's not the case for some of you, who have gotten the lucky straw. I've worked for 6 trucking companies, who will remain un-named.

I went to Schneider National for Schooling back in September of 06, then after training I started with the company in late October. From Jan 1st, 07 until Jan 1st 08 I made a total of almost 47,000 gross. That's pretty darn good for a 1st year driver.

    Pro's:
Home every week for AT LEAST 48 hours and home throughout the week often.
Pay is always on-time, Thursday at Midnight
Always deliver to wal-marts, and that's a guarantee'd place to sleep, with food. No showers, but you're always at the terminal everyday with free showers.
Don't have to wait for a load. If you're done with your load and you're at the terminal, you go home for a 10 hour restart.
People in the office are awesome.. Or well at my terminal they where.
Each trailer has usually 3-4 stops.. 15$ a stop after the 1st stop.

    Cons:
Slip Seating - You don't get an assigned truck, you get assigned a truck for 6 days.. when you're shift is done, you clean out all your stuff and go home.
Back road driving - You only get on the interstate for about an hour tops of your 14.. Most of your driving will be done on parkways, or back roads.
Night Driving - You will always do night driving, unless you luck up once in a while and get on the day shift.. Most loads will leave anywhere between 1800 and 0200 and must be completely unloaded by either 1230 or 0630 depending on if it's meat&produce or frozen&dairy.
Wal-mart Stores take forever to open the #### door to unload you. It'll be pouring the rain and you will have to sit out in the rain, and wait for sometimes 15 minutes to get them to open the door to let you in.
Speed - Trucks are i think 60 MPH now. not sure. But it's all backroads and that speed limit is usually 55 mph, so no big deal. Thats why we have hills ;)

That's all I can think of right now. If there's anything else I'll re-edit the list. I reapplied for Schneider and got that dedicated account back. I couldn't be more happy. I don't know how things on the OTR side of schneider work.. I'm sure it's probably like everywhere else.

If anyone else has input from Dedicated Schneider, i'd like to see how they are treated.

    Thanks :D

    Mr.V Thanks this.

I'm glad to hear this, as I was made an offer from schneider to be a driver for dedicated fleet support out of chicago. He said it was 5 stops per load for either walmart, petsmart , sears and a couple other big companies but I cant remember what else he said. I was told I would be home weekly every saturday and sunday and instead of mileage pay its salary, 850 a week. I have yet to take them up on the offer because im holding out for a local job. but it looks like im gonna be a pumpkin driver because no one has called me yet.A friend of mine who drove for schneider said go for it so I just need a second opinion.
    Thanks

I noticed Schneider trucks pulling dollar store trailers now which makes me think that they need the business enough to start going after the screw-the-driver accounts.

Metage- Which WalMart DC are you out of? I know Schneider operates out of the Wintersville OH and Bedford PA DC's for WalMart. I've applied for the OH DC for Schneider but I live too far from what they tell me. I live 70 miles and they only hire 50 miles out.
The Dollar General trailers that you see are out of Zanesville OH if you are from the PA area.

And as of about May of this year Schneider was offering .32 cpm for dedicated tanker in Houston.......... and they said " But only half is hazmat and you'll make up the low mileage rate in accessorial pay"......

Ahhh yup, ah huh.... and this won't hurt a bit.

TDriver, I haven't went back to orientation yet.. I'll be out of the London, Kentucky DC. Start out at 33 CPM but I don't care.. I needed a job badly and I lucked out when I got back on with them. :p

    HalfBurn,
Yea, I've used to see DG pumpkin trucks up north about a year or so ago, maybe they have a contract up there.. I know that Werner has the contract out of Scottsville KY or whatever city that DG DC is in.

I saw where a tanker crashed there. That is a new ramp that is really dangerous (288 southbound ramp to I610 West?). There are very few signs there and they need some better warnings.

I say new ramp but you can see from an above view on google that they added an exit lane from 610 and this exit ramp was tightened to merge with that new exit lane which makes it more of an exit joining an exit and you can't see how sharp it turns until you top the ridge then it may be too late. The grade also leans you to the left while you are making a hard right curve. You will see many more crashes there until they get some signs up. With all the black marks on the road it already looks like a pit entrance.
