    Good afternoon all,

Im in a weird spot.i have been in the Army Reserves now for over 10 years, deployed to Iraq in 2003.I have been working for the government now for over 5 yrs as at first a diesel mechanic. We work on generators, scrapers, freightshakers, humvve's dueces(still around) MTV's HEMMTS ect.I drove an old kaiser jeep M818 5 spd with a 5K fuel tanker on it in iraq for a year as well as a Wrecker opertaor since then.

I currently cant do the Army anymore,im still in but with my PTSD,wore out knees ect i cant meet the standard. My 2 mile run i keep failing by like 1 min..lol...So i honestly just cant keep doing it,the kicker is my job.If i quit the military i lose my job.I had gotten my CDL A a few months back because of work requirments.I am extremly comfortable behind the wheel of anything, ive towed full systems and havent had issue. So the driving isnt the issue.I have never been in the industry before so im not familuar with log book, qualcoms, regs ect.i love driving so no issue there either. We had 16 hours fuel runs we would do non stop except to get fuel.So no issues there either.

Being i have a wife and daughter (5yrs old) im not sure what to pursue,i make GREAT money where i am(26$/hr) and i know there is nothing even close to that out there for driving, but its not that big of a deal.i could live off 700/wk take home.Is that even possible as a new driver? and also where would i apply? As a new guy with no experience or experienced without any Stateside DOT regged driving.i have my CDL already and have thousands of miles underm my bielt, but just not as a civillian DOT regged person.

I appreciate any and all input.

As a brand new driver, it will be hard to find a job where you are going to take home $700/wk every week.

If you want that local job, start pounding the pavement with a professional looking resume and talk to people in person face to face. You would be surprised at the opportunities out there. I would exhaust my contacts of in state companies before starting to look at the mega carrier training companies.

Do your homework on any company you apply to, this forum is a great source of info. Lots of people here will give you good advice, but you alone have to decide what is best for you and yours.

Thank you for your service, and good luck.

Finding a job should be no problem. $700/week take home will be tough for a while, though.

Your best course is to network all you can with other combat vets. That's a strong brotherhood.

Thanks guys i appreciate the quick responses.i mean it doesnt have to be 700 a week.obviosly it can be a little less.Just gonna be hard jumping from $1,000wk.BUt with moving to allot cheaper location and my daughter starting Kindergarten next year($545mnth for preschool)it will save me a ton of cash..lol.

I know its gonna be tough getting into but i honestly think the Army instills in you alllllllot of tolerence. So i dont mind having it tough. It wont be the first time and probably not the last..lol

If you live near an Army base, check for on base driving jobs. They pay well ($24/hr for me) and love to hire us disabled Vets. The contracts require them to hire us at a percentage.
