I was at the OC today kickin it at the caf when a guy came in with a fresh load of groceries. He washed his fresh produce right there, cut it up and got it all prepared for his next week out.
I felt like an under-achiever. It's work to eat healthy. I cannot do it all the time but I try. BMI isn't going away.

I have been looking at this refrigerator, I think my next truck is going to have one for that very reason.

It is a challenge to eath healthy on the road, but it is not impossible by any means. I have no sympathy for those who cant figrure it out. It wasnt that difficult of a lesson.
My hats off to the driver who is taking the time to do it right there. A lot of us could learn from that. -
Additionally, I think it's important to stop the truck and take a walk. I get in that "Gotta drive" mode but then remember I can stop and take 30 minutes to walk around the truck, a little ways up and down the block and to take a minute or two for some quick yoga.
I will NOT drive myself to death. That just ain't gonna happen.
But yes, it's a challenge. But you have to do it -
I agree, one thing I noticed is that if I stoped ever 4 hours and took a walk, stretched out, drank plenty of water or gatorade and stayed away from the soda and candy bars, I could sure drive a lot harder than when I tried to keep the truck rolling all day and id just crash when I got where I was going.
Of course when I started trucking with a dog that helped a bunch too because they will make you walk them.bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
Truly man's best friend. -
I'm sorry, Im not trying to make light of this thread. But something just hit me. I am looking at the pic MrBeast has of all the politicians. Maybe we should start a movement for a law for a BMI standard for Politicians. Based on the pic, I don't think half of them would make it. LOL.. This could solve our problem, and would probably make our whole country much better!.... "Sorry Mr Senatorial candidate, but you'll have to with draw from the election because your BMI is to high, and you probably have a sleep disorder!" I'm loven this. I'm gona send it to FOX and let them run with it!
-
I disagree because I really like Chris Christy, and I really like what he is doing for New Jersey, hell Id vote for him for president if he ran.

As to the OP: BMI is not a discrimination deal. It's here to stay. If driving for a company or someone who has to carry the insurance then weight will be playing a factor. Overweight people will cost more in the insurance rates. There is no argument here! They (Insurance companies) know that overweight ppl have a greater risk of heart disease and diabetes. They have a higher factor of falls and then there is the darn accident you might have. You have to remember that this is a law suit crazy society! Just watch as whoever you have an accident with jumps on the fat bandwagon! IT WILL HAPPEN! Did that driver fall asleep because of SA? He had a heart attack and caused the accident or a diabetes problem and they lost control, or can he control the truck with his belly in the steering wheel like it is? I watched a new hire get put on the bus home because he could NOT get behind the wheel due to his extremely large gut! The Pete did not have tilt wheel, so tough he couldn't drive the truck because he couldn't get behind the wheel! These are things that companies and insurance companies are looking at now and to cut off the bare threat of a law suit they can bring up the overweight problem and not hire you.
The ADA has NO provision on overweight ppl that have no MEDICAL reason for the extra pounds! If the overweight problem is from a problem with the elbow bending too much feeding the face with too much food, a sedentary life, smoking or any other things that are controllable by changing a lifestyle instead of grazing at the buffet or buying snack foods by the pound then the companies have every right to put your application on the bottom of the stack!
Yes I know you have every right to feed till you explode and sit and do nothing to raise a sweat or you like overweight ppl for a sex object, but an employer has every right not to hire an accident waiting to happen or hiring a medical problem about to happen or a law suit from any direction. If it is going to cost more than the usual cost of orientation and long term down the road to hire you know that you'll be out the door.
I'm even waiting for the non smoking waiver on insurance to hit also. Yes some places do hire non smokers only as it really lowers the premium on insurance and with the influx of non smokers I'm waiting to watch companies not hire drivers who smoke as smoke totally screws up the interior of a truck! It stinks like S***T and is a PITA to get out of the upholstery and A/C ductwork! It's a nasty habit but that's another thread!
Anyway. it's not discrimination if they make you get a SA test on your dime. Watch the FMCSA as it's heading that way as a safety thing and the gooberment can make it stick!
If you have a medical reason for being overweight then pay the money for the SA test and the machines needed to sleep and take your job.
Those of you that graze at the buffet, make MickyD's and any fast food your second home instead of a once a week treat and love those Twinkees and Milkyway bars 20 times a week then you need a major life changing change of direction if you want to drive when rules change and make you ineligible to drive a commercial vehicle. Not to mention the costs of having to do a SA Test with EVERY company you apply for. YES any company can tell you that you will use who THEY use and not who you used last week! That's the way this cesspool has turned to. It's the same with a medical card! Yes you have one with 2 years left but BFI wants it done with their guy! That's life in the fast lane.
Sorry if I come out sounding like the arse I can be,but this is the "New Age" of trucking. I don't sugar coat anything and will tell you the way I see it and am watching as this world we know changes for actually the better when it comes to your health! Besides if I have to drag your arse out of a burning truck because you're knocked out cold, a hernia is not what I want! You could get a little crispy! What can it hurt to lose a "few" of those extra pounds and to feel better when you're done? Yeah I KNOW what it's like not to get to eat good and tasty food! I miss the great tasting stuff as all the good tasting food is fattening! Oh! To be able to munch on a fried chicken breast,, a big bowl of salad with a gallon of Ranch Dressing or a stack of pork chops or pound of ribs! No I'm not over weight but a different medical problem has taken crunchy, fried and tasty food and even beer away from me for a while longer but there is no difference. Eat lighter and eat smart and get back to a weight that will not handicap you in employment or in health! Also, it's not hard to park in front of the building and still walk a mile to get to the front doors! Oh, make that both ways!mealso, Optimus, Rocketman007 and 2 others Thank this. -
Wally World and most other grocery stores sell pre-packaged salad.
I just got home from being out with my other half for six weeks. We aren't large people by any means, but we still need to eat healthy just like everyone else.
We always had bananas, apples and salad on the truck. -
A breaking news indeed. A wage slave shall adjust his skills, attitude, appearance, views you name it in order to get and keep a job in order to survive. As many people pointed here, you can change just about anything about yourself. Just don't forget to wave flag and chant "freedom", "liberty", "we are the freest under the Sun" while self-adjusting. They say it helps to create alternative reality and feel good.
Injun Thanks this.
