I'd definitely go electric. I have an old Magikist 1500 or 2000 psi unit and haven't had any issues with it in 12 years and I bought it used. It's doesn't take up much room and it works fine getting bugs off. I wash my truck every week so they don't get baked on though. I find that trucks that get washed with high pressure every week seem to get faded paint IMO. Good soap and soft water is the most important thing to me. I'll wash my truck in a hour and a half and that included degreasing the frame/engine and brightening the aluminum. If I wash the trailer (6 axle covered wagon) add another 45 minutes. Good luck with your purchase.

Sams Club sells one as well for $1100.00 with a gas honda engine that works really good. It dumps 4gals. a min at 3500 psi. with 5 different tips for pressure with 50ft reel hose. You will not be disappointed with this thing. I use it out in the Farm to knock off mud and grease off my Tractors and it will clean off whatever you want it to. It has a tip that is red in color...if you want to knock the paint off your rig use it....it works good!! It was A gut twisting Lesson learned for trying it on painted surfaces first. Plus it's a good tax write off!!

Regardless of the one you buy be sure to read the instructions. Most pressure pumps fail due to excessive heat because they are pumping when the trigger is closed. Don't fire it up until you are ready to start cleaning and don't lay it down for a coffee break without shutting it off. The un-loader valve will keep the pressure from bursting a seal but because the water continues to build heat the seals will break down quicker if you let it idle. Most instructions will say shut off after one minute of idle but it is best not to let them idle at all.

I had a DeVillbiss 3 HP washer for 15 years... one day it just stopped pumping. i sold it to my neighbor.

I used to borrow his electric washer... seemed to do Ok for what it was.

My son has a big trailer mounted hot water/steam cleaner... 3500 psi... takes your skin off... works good.

Now I'm looking for another washer... this time it will be a hot water machine. I'll probably buy a used one at auction or from my local dealer... he always has trade-ins available.
