Well, packing tonight to head out to SLC for training with Central tomorrow morning..., not looking forward to the 37 hour bus ride, leaving at 7 am and arriving at 9:50 pm Saturday. I probably should bring a can of oil so I can lube up my joints, I hope they have given more room in the buses since the last time I rode in one. I believe that was sometime in mid 80's.

Yes sir! I agree with that! Packed and ready to go myself. Gonna be a long ride, but I think it will be worth it in the end. I'll give you a shout in Denver on Saturday. I think that Greyhound's website shows their newer buses have more room and other nice things. Maybe it won't be terrible. I'm guessing I'll try to sleep some, but I usually don't sleep on the road.

Training itself isn't bad. First week is inside, getting class A learners permit, and general knowledge of the workings of trucking. Second week is hands on training on the backing range. Learning to back isn't hard, you just have to digest it in segments, then piece it all together. Half way thru the week you start learning to shift and driving in town, and up and down Parley's pass. the biggest thing to remember is to listen to what they are telling you to do, when and why they are telling you to do it. If you don't understand ask them. That is the biggest thing that I seen when I was there, people would nod their heads, yes i understand, then later on that day ask 3 people, what they actually meant. As far as the money I tried to keep about 100 per week for food, and supplies. Try to minimize all you expenses. Smokes in SLC are about 7.00 a pack for Marlboro's and about 5.50 a pack for generics. Food cost about 7.00 per value meal at your local McDonalds and such.Last edited: Sep 23, 2010

Anyone know if central has any dedicated or local routes in the Louisville Ky. area. If so, what are the odds of grabbing one with 6mos. experience?
Thanks yall -
they wont hire you if you already have your cdl unless you want to be a lease op witch i strongly discourage you from doing. n0o local routes in louisville you might qualify for kraft dedicated witch runs east of the missippi river. but since you would be an l/o you cant do that either cause kraft is only company drivers

take about 500 for food. and if your a big guy and eat a lot like me take 700

I know they haul the JBS (Swift meats) out of there, I am not sure on anything else coming out of there

Thanks for the info fellas. Actually I dont have my CDLs just yet, thats one of the reasons Im checking Central out. But Im wondering after being with the company for 6mos or a little longer if I could get home 2 or more days a week. Im not one who likes to jump from job to job. I had a couple pre-hires with a couple of the mega carriers but my financing fell through with my local school. Piss poor credit due from making almost 80grand for 6years to less than 30grand for the last 3years. Anyway, so I figured Id look at companys who have their own schooling and financing. The whole contract thing doesnt bother me, as i said I like to stay with one company and im very dedicated and hard working. If they can give me a chance I can defiently return the favor.
Thanks Again!
