give united a shout, talk to dennis, hes the guy who does the signups, but he will be straight forward with you, he used to drive, he will tell you its not glamorous... Tell him Corey from temecula said hi, he will know.

Also remember most of these places mostly are CDL farms, they teach you all you need to know so you can get your CDL. the rest is up to you.

I'll give them a call on Monday and see if I can head down and visit the Riverside location. The most important things to me in looking at a school is the student to truck/teacher ratio and how much actual driving time we will get in the yard and out on the streets. Seeing as how WS is only a 10 day orientation and no OTR training with a trainer, i want to have the most drive time i can before heading out to WS.

Chuck, as I told you, I went to United as well. Of course I would have wanted more "stick time" before leaving the safety of school, but I went to Missoula and did fine. Naturally the first 2 or 3 weeks out alone were nerve wracking, but with all the support of everyone in the company, it went swimmingly.....you will do fine if you have confidence

I have read several mentions of W/S newbies having all sorts of "phone numbers" of others in the company as they first venture out on the road on their own. Is this provided to the drivers as part of training/learning curve, or what each individual driver gathers on his own during orientation and talking to folk? Thanks.

It's both. You will meet drivers during your 10 day, and if you hit it off, ask if it's ok if you can get their number. Also there is a phone card that has numbers in the company of people you may need to talk to, safety, training dept, etc....I never wanted for people to call when I needed someone to talk to about a particular situation...
