Well I am a new freight driver and i look at it like this. Fed Ex is not loosing ANY freight volume by doing this. They had x amount of freight before merger and they are going to have x amount of freight after. They needed Y amount of trucks to move that freight before and will need y amount of trucks after. I do not see how the drivers are going to be greatly affected. The people that will not be neede when terminals close are the management and office workers.

Good thinking about the freight load being the same....but did you notice the 53'
trailers with the arrows that say lift here? They be going on the rail.

The title of this post is the title of an article by Dan Leone in Transport Topics, 10/4/10, page 4. If I included a link, it would only work for Transport Topics subscribers.

I was interested in comparisons between LTL carriers.

Only the company's air freight segment is doing ok...... LTL and NATL have been losing money bad. One of the goals is to stop the overlap where two trucks call on the same shipper everyday.

Your husbands job will depend on his terminals profitability , his lanes etc. Other items considered will be his proximity to a major FedEx shipper say like Whirlpool etc. Another item to consider is his terminals proximity to another. The bigger one will likely win especially if along a major highway.

There's no way to know..... this data is used in the decision process but what weight it's given is decided by the uppers.

Best he can do is hedge his bet...... work all he can...save all he can....sharpen the resume' and be looking around. Know who's doing what ( jobs ) all the time.

I wish you both all the best....been there.
