Hello,
I hope someone can help me here. I get a mixed bag each week from the carrier that I have signed on with - don't ask who the carrier is please. I'm not the truck driver - just the truck owner. Can settlement info be doctored easily in the carrier's favor? Can a carrier make money on the fuel purchases(they buy it - I pay for it)? Is there an easy way to tell if the data is not correct if you're not actually doing the driving yourself? I would expect a truck with a 53' trailer should be able to generate $4-5K per week gross without problems. Am I wrong or just unreasonable or stupid?
This deal is based mostly on trust on my end - and it's running out.
thanks,
Brian
How can I trust my settlement docs?

Without more information as to how you are paid, and exactly what type freight, and who is paying for tags, cargo ins, fuel taxes, and many other things, getting more exact is impossible. However, I feel my figures are somewhat realistic, if not on the high side. I really would think $2800.00 is more normal for a good week right now for a leased on truck.BCHines Thanks this. -
As far as settlements, if the freight rate is not on the BOL, you pretty much have to take their word for it, unless you talk to the shipper or receiver, and they happen to actually know. By law you are allowed to see all invoices for billed freight. You are within your rights to ask for this, and to be shown all paperwork. As for fuel. If you are buying at their terminal, they can charge you whatever they want unless the contract states you pay their cost. If you purchase fuel at truckstops with cash or a fuel card, you should be getting a receipt.

Hi Stranger,
Thanks for your reply. -
I agree with Stranger. BTW, your statements should be itemized, so you know how much you're getting and how much is going out. And your driver can steal from you too, if he knows how.

Thanks Allow Me.
The statements are itemized, but some weeks show more loads than others, thus less revenue. There is no way for me to know if runs were not made etc..
I have a few questions I would like to ask you if you don't mind. I can pay you for your time. Can we talk on the phone as I am from MA and I see you ar efrom CA? My email is brian_hines2003@yahoo.com. Send me an email if you don't mind the contact and we can make arrangements on a time.
thanks,
Brian -
