just got a call back from p rime my app was approved now waiting on orintation date pittson backed up do anyone nows the process now?
and should i go company or just jump to L/p never leased before so i was thinking company first but as company driver staying out three weeks how much will ill be making a week???? -
This is not a flame or put down, but anybody who has to ask if they should do a lease or not, should not in my opinion.
To weigh company driver vs L/O takes a good head for business and the ability to create a business plan and run it the way you planned it.
Start out as a company driver and learn the workings of Prime first hand and then make your decision.sazook Thanks this. -
thanks CW..............

I've seen those truck deals also and thought about this same thing. Just spoke to a O/O who made a delivery here who was driving an older truck and said he just rebuilt his enging for $15k and his transmission for $3.5k. Seems like you could have a nice older truck with a fresh engine for under $40k and be good to go for 3-4 years.
I really like the idea of running my own business but leasing with anyone is out of the question. $125k for a truck is way out there for me. I've seen some of the trucks these company drivers get and they are normally trashed inside the cab and sleeping area. If you take more than 4 days off you have to give your clean truck up to another driver only to get another trashed one when you return.
Any input on what costs the driver is responsible for and what costs the carrier is responsible for would be greatly appreciated. -
Well first, a truck you lease onto Prime has to be no more than 2 years old when you sign on. Unless its one you bought from Prime's leasing company... then it'll be no more than 3 years.
Second, I don't know where you get your information from, but any truck that Prime sends back out with a company driver has been totally detailed. There certainly can be interior damage from some slug that had it previously, but they're not "trashed." Further, its your truck until it's called back in, or you decide to leave.
Can't say what the breakdown on the owner/op side is with any certainty, although I do know that you get 73% of the linehaul, and 100% of all accessorial payments. I'd guess that you're responsible for plates, insurance, paying to have the QualComm installed, etc. - pretty much the same deal that the lease drivers get. As an owner, you can choose to buy your insurance, etc. through Prime, or go off on your own.
