It is usually insurance driven. I can sign you onto my company if you have two years commercial driving experience. Other companies that are self-insured may be able to take less.

that's how i do it. my company finds all my freight, handles the insurance, i run under their authority.

if you have time to do all that, thats less you gotta pay someone else to do. in my situation, i just wanna drive the truck, thats why i pay someone else to do the rest.

I can absolutely see where you might not. My company makes pretty decent money off of me. They also spend a lot of time putting good paying freight on my truck. If you can do both well, it's definetly gonna pay better to make the cash at both ends.

Same with wrenching. Everyone told me you gotta wrench on your own truck to make money. I'm good at running hard and moving freight down the road. Not so good at wrenching. In my situation it works better for me to run hard all week and hire out the jobs I'm not as good at. Every minute I waste tinkering around at a part of the job I'm not good at, is a minute I lost doing what makes me money.

    jdrentzjr Thanks this.
