Why do drivers not know how to run a recap anymore?

Depends... the load I'm on now requires an 11-hour-a-day push. Sitting at the first drop getting a 10 tonight. But quite a few of the loads I take are the 200 - 500 mile overnight runs too - pays pretty well.

Yup. That works too. My bottom line and reefer freight appointments keep me from running pedal-to-the metal all the time. Just when the unload appointments require it.

Gawd! Someone needs to tell the FMCSA about this 24-hour reset business. I just can't find it in the "Green Book." ROTFLMAO!!!!

 

I tried to explain this to my dm, and the conversation instantly turned into a teeth pulling competition since my dm is new to the industry and all.

 

thought this logging stuff was going to be self explanatory. This is my first week out on my own and I cant believe how fast the hours disappear. had some 5hr days had some 11 hr days. I need to learn to squeeze more miles out of each hour.

if you are wondering my trainers are on dedicated runs so I learned nothing and was thrown to the wolves.

 

If you are "rescuing" a greatwide driver he doesnt have to recap anymore.. The entire fleet save a few dallas mavis drivers run elogs now. They don't ask how many hours you have they tell you to get your #### and get. If you don't tell them I can't legally make it you run it. When that computer beeps you park and go to bed all you can do. Having said all that weeks before we went to this elog crap I had to teach a o/o of 10 years how to recap. I asked him how long have you been in a truck? he said 20 years.. and he never learned how to recap.. 10 minutes later he was a professional

 

I take it that's WY intrastate?

If CA would make it 24 to go with the 12 & 16 a guy could make some money.............

 

Those were some great times for me; thrown to the wolves with nothing but a butter knife to fend for myself!

Just be sure to take that 34 when you get tired. No load is THAT important to burn yourself out over (unless you haul hot-shot freight or something...) Want to squeeze more miles in your trip? Become familiar with the "left door policy", meaning don't become a truck stop cowboy (stopping at every other truckstop, etc).

 

And I'm sure some wouldn't even realize that less than halfway through those 3 days they had a 34 hour in.

I couldn't imagine only doing 8.75 a day, that's way too much time in truck stops for me.

 

i dont know why most of us are still living buy the rules that dot made in 1934 ya 1934 and yes there rules not laws!!!!!!!!!!! maybe ive been at this bs to long .

 

Yeah Vinnie you are correct that they are not laws.. but they have become that.. and yeah they are old and dusky but they were revised to a worse set of rules a few years back..

you sound like a very special person. do you take the time to explain how recaps work, to help your fellow driver, or do you just talk behind their backs? maybe being a dying breed is not such a bad thing. i have met a lot of drivers that can drive all the way from Mexico to Alaska in reverse, hauling smooth bore half-filled triple tankers. i bet your one of them. good job being the best.
