Thought i would introduce myself, My name is john and i'm intrested in the trucking lifestyle. Have been for a few years, did a little research here and there.
I know that it can be a lonely and stressful lifestyle. Good thing i enjoy being alone on the road. Don't take this the wrong way, not to sound ####y before i even step foot in a rig but i beleive i could be a natural at the lifestyle(not just driving).
To be honest, i am the perfect fit for a otr guy. I don't mind being alone, matter of fact i prefer it. I'm not a big people person i could do without the idiots. I actually enjoy driving out on the open road. I'm actually leaving in the morning to head back up to rhode island from florida. I love it. Drove here a few days ago for some lawyer stuff. I do have some experince driving some large trucks and towing. This is where i say i could be a natural, i pick right up whatever i get in, least i feel that way. I have confidence(not ####y), whats wrong with that.
Anyways i will be a quiet member as of now. Mostly reading, learning.
I do have one question. This is mainly for owner operators. Have you ever befriended someone who was intrested in the lifestyle and took them out on the road to show them what its really like? I know this would be impossible for some with company policy and all. But i would love to befriend someone and get a taste of the real open road.

Good Evening,
I went out with a O/O for a couple months and was not covered on insurance as I was new, and under 25. This limited myself and what I could and could not do. He found me when I posted an ad out on truck paper in the "Job Wanted" section. I do think it was a great experience and if hes good like my former boss is; he will make you a better person. He is there to run a business and your his employee to be a team.
I do have to wonder if you can drive at night. If not, do not even bother spending a penny on trucking school. This is a industry that weeds out people faster than grass grows. Ask the veterans on here if you do not believe me. I'm curious where do you live as members can help guide you to companies if you cant get an o/o willing to take you. Please do update us on your progress. Welcome to the forum.

Hi John...Welcome to the forum.
I'd entertain having someone with me for a few days to ride along, but my truck's a studio, not a condo sleeper.
As far as putting someone behind the wheel? My insurance wouldn't, couldn't and won't handle that.simplyred1962 Thanks this. -

Well i made it up to rhode island. Took me longer to drive back then it did to drive down. Hit the north east at the wrong time on a friday so take a guess. haha.
By the way i moved to rhode island from florida a few months ago. lived in florida for 15 years, but i'm from rhode island.
Well i don't know if i should start a new thread or not but i have a question for the vetrens. Is there a good school around the pawtucket rhode island area? Down in florida there was roadmaster and NBI trucking 5 minutes from where i was living. But now i'm here in RI.
I'm really thinking of doing this. Like i said in my first post, I feel like i could be a natural. Of course i would have to learn the technical side of it like log books, etc. But the lifestyle and driving long hours, stress, etc i can deal with. I have a passion for driving, towing trailers, boats, etc. So why not try to make a living from it.
Any owner/operators in the pawtucket rhode island area? -
