How bad are the bathrooms in the truck stops and also if they are really filthy what are the alternatives?

    Thanks in advance.

Some are clean, some are filthy. Sometimes the one you were in once that was clean, will be nasty the next time you visit.

Not sure about an alternative, when you gotta go, you gotta go.

I agree depends on where you go. I do have 2 HUGE complaints about public bathrooms.....

1.could always tell when we were back in Canada (without looking around, at signs etc lol) the difference between the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Canada lost that battle BIG time. Honestly? the U.S washrooms appear to be attended more, some are quite pleasant with little park areas etc.

    2. not enough of them either in Canada or the U.S that allow big rigs.

Dirty restrooms are a frequent complaint of anyone who travels for a living. I hate the darn things. Heres a way to prepare for the just incase...JMO and I am a germ FREAK!....LOL

Go to wal-mart or any chain store and purchase toilet seat covers, they are really not expensive, get a bottle of hand sanitizer, and a travel size one too, and some baby wipes. Take the seat covers, the travel size hand sanitizer and the baby wipes (put a few in a sandwich bag) into to the restroom with you. They will fit nicely into your jeans/pants pocket. You are then armed with all the necessary safety devices to make your visit at least bearable.....and when you exit the restroom DO NOT touch the door handle and once out use hand sanitizer BEFORE you do anything else. You can use the bigger bottle of hand sanitizer to refill the little one, and you need to use this stuff once you return to your truck if you touched ANYTHING after exiting the restroom. YOU would be AMAZED where fecal matter shows up when public areas are tested at random.

For those 'I gotta go' moments, I kept a gallon jug in the truck (as you can tell, I'm a guy and can hence use a jug). Just make sure you empty it into a toilet (if possible, IN toll road truck parking porta-potties are good for this) or throw it in a dumpster, not out the window or on the shoulder.

Back when I drove I kept a porta potti in my sleeper (had a w900), it was the size of the bottom drawr on the left side. Used it in emergencies and when the T/S bathrooms were bad.

That's a heck of a first post. (I have to say heck because I'm in trouble for using the alternative.lol)

The worst thing I have found lately is the WY rest areas. You can smell them 20 feet before you walk in the building. I gaged going in there. Most the bigger truck stops keep on top of them pretty good but its alot of people and they can go down FAST. I knw one thing. I won't eat anywhere with a nasty bathroom. It's a good insite into the cleanlyness of there kitchen

it all depends on the time of day and the location. its really a 50/50 deal. i always carry my own toilet paper with me as you never know how the paper situation is till you're about to "wipe" and oops........no paper.... to late then, huh....???
