    Hi!
I just graduated and got my AZ license.
Having no experience, its a little hard even filling out online applications.
Anyone know of any companies in the Toronto area, willing hire rookies? Maybe ones with programs for beginners?
    Thanks

Vik, try the Brampton Container companies, these have tremendous turnover are all ways looking for new talent. A couple of caveats however, the equipment is not new by a long shot, there is really no miles as the work is mostly p and d, and finally you will have to work cheap, container work does not pay very well and you may have to wait at the railheads in Vaughn and Brampton. Give them a call

Try HIGHLAND they were hiring NEWBIES in a sort of Mentor program .
    From their WEBSITE

    * Exceptions to the one (1) year OTR requirement may be made on an individual basis if the driver applicant has a stable work history and has received their training from an approved accredited school. If you have limited over-the-road experience that does not qualify you to be a single qualified over-the road driver we have limited positions available in our on-job-training program. The program consists of paid over-the-road driving under the direct instruction of a qualified trainer with a strong emphasis on skills upgrading, safety and communication.

I started with Schieder, out if Aberfoyle and found that they were great. The benefits started right away and you got paid for training.

Yep, just the kind of people you'd want NOT to work for. Look at the spelling mistakes. Can't spell Alberta (that's a tough one I know), Minnesota(another very challenging word) and the toughest of them all Wisconsin!

You think these people can make out a payroll cheque with out making a mistake in THEIR favour?

Bet they want the drivers to be incorporated also so there's NO CPP, UIC, WSIB, BENEFITS...need I go on?

Go with a reputable player NOT Rashedids, Ramjets or Mohameds Freight/Trucking...

You can try J&F Trucking in Ajax. That is where I started out. Pretty decent to drive for. I would suggest staying AWAY from Challenger. You will more than likely be teamed with another novice driver, possibly a foreign worker brought to Canada. They do not care if you have mountain or bad weather driving experience, you MUST drive through.
Challenger has almost all auto transmissions in their trucks now. That way any monkey can drive them. The Volvo I-Shifts are SWEET! The Freightshakers are so-so. The Eaton auto has some peculiar quirks.
J&F uses A LOT of older trucks. They fix their trucks properly, every weekend almost every truck goes in for a PM and a wash. Even though they are older (I drove #191, a '94 Mack I think it was) they are in good shape. They don't hassle you about writing up a problem for repair like Challenger will. Especially if it requires a repair while on the road. I think J&F is still moving to newer Volvo's and some newer Mack's now as well.

    Just my $0.02 from experience.

J&F own a Mack / Volvo dealership so no reason trucks would be in bad shape.
