When my daughter graduates high school in the near future...I'm tempted to look for an over-the-road company that'll hire seasonal drivers. I'm hitting the big 60 and I'm TIRED of all the winter crap...Elk Mtn etc. Anyone know of companies that will hire "seasonal" drivers? Say April to first of November?

No, but if you find one let us know. I am sure we would all quit our current jobs for something like that!

Should not be a problem. When I quit trucking full time I went to university for four years. During summer break, christmas break etc. I went out on the road. I would run for four months in the summer, nothing for a couple of months, then two weeks at christmas.

I did this for two different companies. I always pulled a flatbed so I worked for a flatbed company for the first two years. After that I worked for a reefer company that ran out of my home city (no longer in business). While it almost killed me to hook up to a reefer it worked well for myself and the company.

Both companies felt having a driver part time was better than nothing. I have a feeling if you call a few companies they will feel the same way.

You could probably work that out as an experienced driver with a history with the company you want to work for. It could be a win win situation for the company and you if you want to work when the freight picks up and take time off when it drops off. If you want full time insurance that could be a deal killer.

Alot hire now for the christmas rush like mail carriers.

Maybe you could consider dump truck. Those are about the months they work.

Then again just talk with companies. I worked for one 3 different times 7 months at a shot. Just as long as you leave on a good note. Most will rehire you.

Actually I don't have a crappy job. I'm a tanker yanker in southern Kansas running regionally to Mo/OK/TX.
I hauled reefer most of my time over the years going back to '92. Then, due to parental obligations(divorce) went back to doing radio while raising my daughter. Now I'm home every day and making pretty decent money. But once she graduates I'm thinking about going back out over the road again.
BUT, as I mentioned earlier, I have NO desire to play the 'winter mountain pass game" again.....been there, done that!!
Call me a pu**y if you want, but I don't mind running my ##### off 8 months out of the year and "kicking back" a little during winter, OR maybe even looking for a company that'll run me on Sesame Street during the winter months.

I was replying to Chompi not you. The first place I would start is the company you are with now. Talk to your terminal manager. As long as you are not expecting to keep full time benefits while working part time I would think they would consider it.
