Rand has dropped the price $50 off the suggested retail price, that is why you see them on sale everywhere.

If he was an honest seller did he not offer any type of refund if the unit failed after x days?

If you have a problem with the TND, you most certainly can ship it to me to have it looked at.

But, the truth is you bought a item from a 3rd party, then started bashing Rand because the item failed. This 3rd party does not want to seem to guarantee his sales as an authorized dealer would. Any authorized dealer would guarantee a sale for 30 days, then the other warranties would kick in.

E-Bay sales are basically - buyer beware. I have bought off E-Bay, but I usually buy bigger ticket items such as wooden boats.

As I suggested Rand may or may not honor the warranty from an item from E-Bay. They do have policies in place.

I offer again, if you wish to ship to me then I will look at it.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I just got the 700 last weekend and did about 2800 miles with it this week.

I have to say that this thing is awesome. Really made things easy with the way I route things. Went from picking my routes and making my old GPS follow them, to starting with the 700's routes, double checking them for accuracy and only doing minor tweaks if needed. I do have to say that it commonly tends to pick different routes than other software does, but so far they have seemed reasonable.

It did make a few small mistakes for me, but they were all pretty minor. Mostly due to roads close together, construction, or just odd ways two roads meet each other. Think there was only once it had bad information that caused me to miss a turn, and once where it would have done the same for someone not familiar with an area. It also routed me to a couple U-turns despite having them set to not allow.

Only really have two complaints so far, which I don't think is too bad.

First, it is putting noise into my CB. Can get it a little better if I mess with the power cord going into the unit, since it seems to be ever so slightly loose.

Also, while the POI search for truckstops along my route is awesome and helped me out a ton, I almost got myself into trouble by using the listing of how many miles it was to the location. I was somewhere with a pretty big distance between stops and not too much time left on my HOS for the day. GPS said the mileage was something where I could just make it to the second group of stops, and be able to skip the first ones. Added it as a via then noticed the ETA would have had me over my 14. Seems that it calculates the distance in the search for POI with a straight line distance, then once it is added as a via you get to see how far you will actually have to travel on the roads to get to it.

    I have two questions :

    1. Does it hurt the unit to leave plugged to power all the time? I am a local driver with the cigarette lighter that goes off with when I shut down. So the power is on and off every time I stop. The reason why I ask is I have a TomTom 720 and the battery in the unit lasts about 5 minutes now if I shut off truck. I called TomTom they told me I should not of left it plugged in all the time. I should of charged it up all the way then let it drain down then recharge it. Is this same thing going to happen with the 700 if I leave plugged in all the time?

    2. Is Is there a way to check a route from one place to another and not be at the starting point? The reason I ask I will get a call to quote a price for a job, and I would like to be able to check the mileage from point to point even thou I am not at either point.

    Yes there is.

I can't remember the button to hit, and I don't think it was in the instruction book, but with some trial and error I figured it out.

when you punch in the adress of where you are going and it gives you the location
on the screen with the button "begin new route"
at the bottom center there is a button "set origin"
this point becomes you start point

then after you find your distance for quote
there is a little button above the headed direction button
to go back to your actual gps coordinate

    I understand that
    I hope you do ;o)

E-mail me and I will send you my address.

I know you bought in good faith, but Rand does have policy's in affect. I can assist you in bringing your TND back to life.

    Thanks,
    Mark

The TND is a receiver only. If it seems to be putting noise on your CB you can buy suppressors for the DC line.

POI searches are "by the way" the crow flies. They are an estimate from your location. Unless you physically route to them or add as a VIA, the true mileage will not be known.

    Thanks,
    Mark
