I'm next to the Kansas City drop yard. Per their site they do offer Home time plus in my area. I hope that info is accurate....
Anyway, I will likely apply for the 7/3-7/4 and hope to pull in about 30k as a rookie.

I talked with Carie, my recruiter again today as I had a couple questions for her. I was concerned about the "pre-hire" concept as i had heard many nightmare stories about people who quit their "regular" jobs to go to the company they planned on driving for only to be taken out part way through their orientation and told they weren't going to be hired for whatever reason.
I specifically asked Carrie about this today and she stated unequivicably that this does not happen at Roehl. They do ALL of the screening and background checks before allowing any potential driver to step foot into their classroom. When they give you authorization to attend their school, all the background checks, student loans, finacial aid, and whatever else is already worked out so there are no surprises once you get to Wisconsin. Several other companies do not abide by the same standards and some even wait until the recruit shows up for training before they do ANY checking, which sometimes leads to guys and gals being sent home a few days after their training has started. This really screws people over who have left their jobs with the impression they are going to be starting a new career.
In my opinion, this is just another reason to go with this company and I have made my decision that this will be the company I drive for. Now it's just a matter of faxing them all the verification and employment info they require. -
It is good to see you write about people quitting thier regular jobs. It is a
good thing to work out a notice and leave a job on good terms. Trucking is a great occupation, but not always the right one for everyone. Some
people realize only in the middle of training that a tractor trailer is too large for them, they cannot back a combination, frustrated,or simply had no idea what they were getting into. Leaving the last job on good terms
is a very good thing to do just to leave the door open.I am glad to see
you checking to make sure they are sure you are good to go. I am also
glad to see good things about Roehl.I e-mailed them years ago to get info
about thier training school but never got a response from them even to
compare them to other driving schools.Good luck in training, there were a
bunch of guys gave up in class when I trained to drive otr. Remember, what do'nt kill us makes us better. -
Hey groovemachine....We live about 1 1/2 hours east of you off of I-70.

Well howdy neighbor!
You must be somewhere round Columbia, MO...?
There may be a good chance I get your husband as one of my trainers!

I'm pretty sure they offer hometime plus, regional and national for van out of the KC yard. so if you want to pull a tuna can you have plenty of options. 30k should be very doable doing 7/4 7/3. that starts when you get your own truck though, you aren't making squat during training.
-
I wantd to run the 7/7 when I move o TX once my house here sells. forgive me if my times are off but they want you to be something like 3 hr's from the yard and where I'm moving is like 4 hours. They said the only way they would hire me is if I were willing to take 11 off at the yard before they let me leave because the drive in was so long they didn't want me driving 15 hors in a day. It was disapointing but it does show me they ae concerned with safety. I'm still considering it though even if it does turn my 7/7 into 9/5

sounds like roehl. i live a little over 3 hrs from marshfield and i do 7/7. i don't how they really could enforce that. the garland tx yard is just drop lot so there are no bunk rooms. i guess you could stay in the truck but you never know when the other driver is getting back to the yard. i get back sometimes early friday, sometimes late friday or even early sat morning depending on how the week goes. the 3 hr ride going to work isn't bad because you are fresh, its the 3 hr ride home that sucks when you r tired after a long week.
-
That's pretty much what I figured which is why I'm still considering it. I want to get my auto dealers license and pedal some bikes and cars on the side so the week off is nice.
He told me I'd have to find a room or sleep in my car since they wouldn't gaurantee the truck would be there but if it was I could sleep in it. I work 14 to 18 hr days now so it's no big deal to me. I'm never so well rested as when I drive otr. I do both and my locl weeks are much more brutal than my otr weeks.
I figure they were just being conservative and what I actually did would make no difference. I did not knwo hat there was nobody at that yard though so it really makes me think more about it.
When I put garland into mapquest I get two of them. One over by dallas and one farther east. I assume it is the farther east one. Am I correct? -
no it's the one just east of dallas
