If the temp is extremely cold, put about a spoon full of salt in the bottle or can of coke. It'll help keep it from turning into additional ice on your ramp.

i take it thats only for solid ramps, not the grated ramps that are built like a grid with teeth that stick up?

I wear Redwings. I replace them about every two years. I don't have to ramp any more my company has almost all liftgates now. Much safer in the winter and easier on the knees.

I always carry a tube of sand. You know the ones that are sold for weight in the back of the car or P/u. it's a multi use product! But during the winter I use it for under the tires in place of kitty litter or salt. Kitty litter gets slippery in snow and ice and why melt the ice? You just need traction!

BUT if you need traction while unloading just grab a few handfuls and spread it where you need it. I keep the bag behind the sleeper using a few tarp straps to hold it on. Beats the hello of waiting for a wrecker or busting your arse!
